Dietary phytochemicals are crucial factors shaping gut bacteria. Here, we investigated the function and mechanism of a phytogenic formulation, EUBIO-BPSG (BP), in laying hens. We found that BP dose-dependently improved health and egg production in 54-week-old hens. Furthermore, BP was correlated with increased fecal Lactobacillus, decreased Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica, and reduced antibiotic resistance (AR) and antibiotic resistance genes (ARG) in chicken stools. The 16S rDNA data showed that BP increased seven genera of probiotics and reduced 13 genera of pathogens in chicken feces. In vitro co-culture experiments showed that BP at 4 µg/mL and above promoted growth o</pubmed_abstract><journal>Bioengineering (Basel, Switzerland)</journal><pubmed_title>A Novel Phytogenic Formulation, EUBIO-BPSG, as a Promising One Health Approach to Replace Antibiotics and Promote Reproduction Performance in Laying Hens.</pubmed_title><pmcid>PMC10045918</pmcid><funding_grant_id>MOST 110-2321-B-001-015</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>112AS-1.6.1-ST-a5</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>MOST 109-2311-B-001-040</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>111AS-1.6.1-ST-aI</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>AS-KPQ-110-ITAR-09</funding_grant_id><pubmed_authors>Yang G</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Ou BR</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Chang TH</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Yang WC</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Liang YC</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Peng TC</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Lin CY</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Tran Nguyen Minh H</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Kuo TF</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Ho CH</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Lin WY</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Yang YL</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Yang CW</pubmed_authors></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable>

Gut microbiota play a key role in health maintenance and disease pathogenesis in animals.
