As previously reported, the Phoenix Mars lander detected approximately 0.6% perchlorate in the Martian soil, indicating challenges for Earth-based life to survive there. Currently, biological approaches using dissimilatory perchlorate-reducing bacteria (DPRB) are the most promising methods for perchlorate degradation. However, the majority of DPRB exhibit limited radiation resistance, rendering them unsuitable for survival on Mars.
