Our study seeks to answer the question: Is adherence to medical therapy sufficient or a healthy lifestyle provides additional improvement?.
Methods
This is a prospective observational multi-center study of 685 ACS patients. At 6 months patients were asked about their post-ACS lifestyle and were given a score (range: 0-7) with the following items: Intake of ≥3 fruits and vegetables/day, ≥2 fish servings/week, ≤7 alcohol beverages/week, feeling stress <once/month, moderate-intense physical activity in leisure time, walking at work, and giving up tobacco. One point was assigned for each of these items. Mean follow-up was 4.89 (2.85-7.70) years.
Results
Afte</pubmed_abstract><journal>American journal of preventive cardiology</journal><pagination>100923</pagination><full_dataset_link>https://www.ebi.ac.uk/biostudies/studies/S-EPMC11745796</full_dataset_link><repository>biostudies-literature</repository><pubmed_title>Beyond secondary prevention drugs: Added benefit in survival and events of a healthy lifestyle in patients after an acute coronary syndrome.</pubmed_title><pmcid>PMC11745796</pmcid><pubmed_authors>Gonzalez-Lorenzo O</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Tunon J</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Huelmos A</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Lazaro AMP</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Lorenzo O</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Lumpuy-Castillo J</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Lopez-Bescos L</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Gutierrez-Landaluce C</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Cristobal C</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Alonso J</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Acena A</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Tarin N</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Kallmeyer A</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Blanco-Colio LM</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Rodriguez EC</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Egido J</pubmed_authors></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable>

Objective
To quantify the added clinical benefit of a healthy lifestyle following an acute coronary syndrome (ACS).
