Burm.f. is a traditional Chinese medicine known for treating various ailments, including fungal infections. Aloin is one of the major components from A. vera, but its antifungal mechanism and therapeutic potential against oral candidiasis are not clear. This study aimed to examine the mechanism of aloin against Candida albicans and its inhibitory activity against oral candidiasis. In this study, we for the first time found that aloin could induce the formation of abnormal hyphae with smaller hyphal diameters and fewer branching points in C. albicans including 11 clinical isolates without growth inhibition. The transcriptome and further cell wall contents analysis indicated that aloin remodeled the cell wall to increase the contents of β-1,3-glucan and furtherly showed an ant</pubmed_abstract><journal>Applied microbiology and biotechnology</journal><pubmed_title>Aloin remodels the cell wall of Candida albicans to reduce its hyphal virulence against oral candidiasis.</pubmed_title><pmcid>PMC11761986</pmcid><funding_grant_id>32470205</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>chuanganyan 2024-901</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>150115</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>81991500</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>2024NSFSC0546</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>82201046</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>81991502</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>81991501</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>32071462</funding_grant_id><pubmed_authors>Shen J</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Zhu Z</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Gou L</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Liao B</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Zhou Y</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Wang J</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Wei Y</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Guo Q</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Zhou X</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Ren B</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Chen D</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Shi Y</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Li Y</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Zhao L</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Xie H</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Liao G</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Cheng L</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Chen X</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Zhang C</pubmed_authors></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable><name>Aloin remodels the cell wall of Candida albicans to reduce its hyphal virulence against oral candidiasis.</name><description>Aloe vera (L.)
