Addressing these challenges requires an innovative and integrated approach utilizing marine natural products with beneficial properties. A comprehensive screening of 173 non-toxic EtOAc and H₂O extracts derived from diverse marine organisms collected in Indonesian waters was conducted using a robust panel of assays. These included antimicrobial tests and classical biosurfactant assays (drop collapse and oil displacement), as well as anti-quorum-sensing (QS) and anti-biofilm assays. These screening efforts identified five active extracts with promising activities. Among these, EtOAc extracts of the marine tunicate Sigilina cf. signifera (0159-22e) and the marine sponge Lamell</pubmed_abstract><journal>Molecules (Basel, Switzerland)</journal><pubmed_title>Integrated Biological and Chemical Investigation of Indonesian Marine Organisms Targeting Anti-Quorum-Sensing, Anti-Biofilm, Anti-Biofouling, and Anti-Biocorrosion Activities.</pubmed_title><pmcid>PMC11944283</pmcid><funding_grant_id>106/IV/KS/11/2023, 41644/IT3/PT.01.03/P/B/2023, 1/PEE-2/PPK-DFRI/2022, and 7197/IT3.L1PT.01.</funding_grant_id><pubmed_authors>Miftah JA</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Kjelleberg S</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Hanif N</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Murni A</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Tan LT</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Kundukad B</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Zahra VA</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Salleh NF</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Jaspars M</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Yanti HD</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Noviendri D</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Oluwabusola ET</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Voogd NJ</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Tanaka J</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Rachmania N</pubmed_authors></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable>

Microorganisms play a significant role in biofouling and biocorrosion within the maritime industry.
