In this study, we conducted a comparative gene expression analysis of several in vitro and in vivo models and identified galectin-3 as a potential biomarker of the disease. Interestingly, we also observed a significant decrease in galectin-3 expression in mice treated with an AAV gene therapy. Finally, galectin-3 expression was studied in muscle biopsies of GSDIII patients, confirming its increase in patient tissue. Beyond the identification of this novel biomarker, our study offers a new perspective for future therapeutic developments.</pubmed_abstract><journal>Cell death discovery</journal><pubmed_title>Galectin-3: a novel biomarker of glycogen storage disease type III.</pubmed_title><pmcid>PMC11997124</pmcid><funding_grant_id>ANR-22-CE17-0031</funding_grant_id><pubmed_authors>Rossiaud L</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Ronzitti G</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Miagoux Q</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Reiss O</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Malfatti E</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Polveche H</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Jauze L</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Nissan X</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Benabides M</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Jarrige M</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Laforet P</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Hoch L</pubmed_authors></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable><name>Galectin-3: a novel biomarker of glycogen storage disease type III.</name><description>Glycogen storage disease type III (GSDIII) is a rare genetic disorder leading to abnormal glycogen storage in the liver and skeletal muscle.
