The long-term hepatic and extrahepatic outcomes of DAAs in chronic hepatitis C (CHC) patients receiving curative antivirals are elusive.
Methods
CHC patients were retrieved from two phase III sofosbuvir-based clinical trials conducted from 2013-2014. Patients who achieved a sustained virological response have been followed prospectively for 5 years since 2016. A propensity score-matched interferon-based historical control with a 1:3 ratio was used for comparison. Quality of life (QoL) was measured by the SF-36, liver fibrosis was measured by electrography, and fibrosis-related markers were followed annually in the prospective cohort.
Results
A total of 1</pubmed_abstract><journal>Infectious diseases and therapy</journal><pagination>1089-1101</pagination><full_dataset_link>https://www.ebi.ac.uk/biostudies/studies/S-EPMC12084436</full_dataset_link><repository>biostudies-literature</repository><pubmed_title>Long-Term Hepatic and Extrahepatic Outcomes of Chronic Hepatitis C Patients After Sofosbuvir-Based Treatment (LONGHEAD Study).</pubmed_title><pmcid>PMC12084436</pmcid><pubmed_authors>Kao JH</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Byun KS</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Yoon SK</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Paik SW</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Peng CY</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Huang CF</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Chen JJ</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Sheen IS</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Youn-Jae Lee</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Kim YJ</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Yu ML</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Ahn SH</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Tak WY</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Yim HJ</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Yeh ML</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Kim YS</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Lim YS</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Tsai PC</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Hsu YC</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Chien RN</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Baek YH</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Hu TH</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Wang HY</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Chang TT</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Chuang WL</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Heo J</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Kim JH</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Dai CY</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Jeong SH</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Huang JF</pubmed_authors></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable>

Background/aims
Direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) are highly effective in treating hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.
