This study evaluated the effectiveness of music intervention in reducing preoperative anxiety compared with standard care. In this randomized controlled trial, 104 women scheduled for elective gynecological surgery with elevated anxiety levels (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-State scale ≥ 39) were enrolled. Participants were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to receive either the two sessions of preoperative music intervention (one on the eve of surgery and another in the anesthesia preparation room) or a control condition consisting of headphones without music. The primary outcome was the change in anxiety between post-intervention on the day of surgery (T3) and baseline </pubmed_abstract><journal>Scientific reports</journal><pubmed_title>Effect of music intervention on preoperative anxiety, a randomised clinical study.</pubmed_title><pmcid>PMC12488935</pmcid><funding_grant_id>2023YFC3603503</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>H2023019</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>DZXYJ202401</funding_grant_id><pubmed_authors>Shen L</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Qian J</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Yan J</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Shan X</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Ding B</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Du C</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Pan T</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Zhang Y</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Ji F</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Deng M</pubmed_authors></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable><name>Effect of music intervention on preoperative anxiety, a randomised clinical study.</name><description>Preoperative anxiety is common among adults undergoing elective surgery and has been associated with adverse clinical outcomes.
