All of them were known to contract this disease after taking baths in hot springs. The disease was diagnosed based on detecting microsporidia in corneal scrapings using Gram stain and the modified Kinyoun's acid-fast stain. The specimens from the last six patients were subjected to PCR and then sequencing. All of them revealed that the microorganism identified has a high similarity to Vittaforma corneae. Repeated debridement of the epithelial lesions successfully eradicated the microsporidial infection in all nine patients.</pubmed_abstract><journal>Journal of clinical microbiology</journal><pagination>414-8</pagination><full_dataset_link>https://www.ebi.ac.uk/biostudies/studies/S-EPMC3264156</full_dataset_link><repository>biostudies-literature</repository><pubmed_title>Microsporidial keratitis in patients with hot springs exposure.</pubmed_title><pmcid>PMC3264156</pmcid><pubmed_authors>Lee SM</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Chen TL</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Lin PY</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Yu WK</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Chen CP</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Fan NW</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Wu CC</pubmed_authors></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable><name>Microsporidial keratitis in patients with hot springs exposure.</name><description>This retrospective study included 10 eyes of 9 patients diagnosed with microsporidial keratitis.
