Proteoglycans carrying keratan sulfate epitopes were majorly observed in cornea, cartilage and brain; and mainly involved in embryonic development, cornea transparency, and wound healing process. Recently, expression of KS in cancer has been shown to be highly associated with advanced tumor grade and poor prognosis. Therefore, we aimed to identify the expression of KS epitope in human pancreatic cancer primary and metastatic tumor lesions. Immunohistochemical analysis of KS expression was performed on primary pancreatic tumors and metastatic tissues. We observed an increased expression of KS epitope on primary tumor tissues compared to uninvolved normal and tumor stroma; and is associated with worse overall survival.</pubmed_abstract><journal>Scientific reports</journal><pubmed_title>Role of keratan sulfate expression in human pancreatic cancer malignancy.</pubmed_title><pmcid>PMC6609602</pmcid><funding_grant_id>R50CA211462</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>R01 CA208108</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>P50 CA127297</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>P30CA36727</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>R50 CA211462</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>U01CA210240</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>R01CA208108-01A1</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>P50CA127297</funding_grant_id><pubmed_authors>Grandgenett PM</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Leiphrakpam PD</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Swanson B</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Qiu F</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Yu F</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Radhakrishnan P</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Patil PP</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Remmers N</pubmed_authors></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable><name>Role of keratan sulfate expression in human pancreatic cancer malignancy.</name><description>Keratan sulfate (KS) is a sulfated linear polymer of N-acetyllactosamine.
