Curcumin has been reported to have neuroprotective effects. However, whether curcumin can protect neurons against PRV infection and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In the present study, for the first time, the protective effects of curcumin against PRV-induced oxidative stress, apoptosis, and mitochondrial dysfunction in rat hippocampal neurons and the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)/tropomyosin-related kinase B (TrkB) pathway were investigated. Results indicated that PRV with a titer of 3.06 × 10&lt;sup>6&lt;/sup> TCID50 (50% tissue culture infective dose) induced oxidative damage of hippocampal neurons 2 h post-infection and that 10 μM curcumin improved the viability of PRV-infected hippocampal neurons. </pubmed_abstract><journal>Scientific reports</journal><pubmed_title>Curcumin protects rat hippocampal neurons against pseudorabies virus by regulating the BDNF/TrkB pathway.</pubmed_title><pmcid>PMC7746732</pmcid><funding_grant_id>31201807</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>cx2018096</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>XDJK2020D012</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>XDJK2020B01</funding_grant_id><pubmed_authors>Feng L</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Gan L</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Luo G</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Yang B</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Luo X</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Zhang C</pubmed_authors></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable><name>Curcumin protects rat hippocampal neurons against pseudorabies virus by regulating the BDNF/TrkB pathway.</name><description>Pseudorabies virus (PRV) infection can elicit nervous system disorders.
