Bergenin is an isocoumarin compound with lots of biological functions including antioxidant activity. This study evaluated the potential beneficial effects of bergenin on pulmonary fibrosis and investigated the possible mechanisms. We found that bergenin alleviated bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis by relieving oxidative stress, reducing the deposition of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and inhibiting the formation of myofibroblasts. Furthermore, we showed that bergenin could induce phosphorylation and expression of p62 and activation of Nrf2, Nrf2 was required for bergenin-induced p62 upregulation, and p62 knockdown reduced b</pubmed_abstract><journal>Antioxidants (Basel, Switzerland)</journal><pubmed_title>p62-Nrf2 Regulatory Loop Mediates the Anti-Pulmonary Fibrosis Effect of Bergenin.</pubmed_title><pmcid>PMC8868171</pmcid><funding_grant_id>2017TP1004</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>S2021105330490</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>82170853</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>2016JJ3182</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>82100084</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>81500056</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>2020JJ4773</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>2021JJ30889</funding_grant_id><pubmed_authors>Xie W</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Zeng Q</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Chen J</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Luo Z</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Hua Q</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Zhou T</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Deng L</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Liu W</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Sang X</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Ren L</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Huang X</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Tang S</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Zhao F</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Xiong D</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>He B</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Wang Z</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Lin M</pubmed_authors></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable><name>p62-Nrf2 Regulatory Loop Mediates the Anti-Pulmonary Fibrosis Effect of Bergenin.</name><description>Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) can severely disrupt lung function, leading to fatal consequences, and there is currently a lack of specific therapeutic drugs.
