A total of 3,526 diabetes-free participants aged 40 years or older were enrolled at baseline in 2010-2012. Multivariable logistic regression was adopted to evaluate the associations of serum retinol and dietary vitamin A (VA) intake with type 2 diabetes. Mediation analyses were used to reveal potential mediators in their associations. After a mean follow-up of 5.3 years, 280 incident cases of type 2 diabetes occurred. Serum retinol was positively associated with the incidence of type 2 diabetes.
