Rapid pressurized blood flows under hemorrhage impair the function and integrity of hemostatic agents and the adhesion of bioadhesive sealants. Here, we report the design and performance of bioinspired microstructured bioadhesives, formed with a macroporous tough xerogel infused with functional liquids. The xerogel can rapidly absorb interfacial fluids such as whole blood and promote blood clotting, while the infused liquids facilitate interfacial bonding, sealing, and antibacterial function. Their synergy enables the bioadhesives to form tough adhesion on ex vivo human and porcine tissues and diverse engineered surfaces without the need for compression, as well as on-demand instant remov</pubmed_abstract><journal>Nature communications</journal><pubmed_title>Liquid-infused microstructured bioadhesives halt non-compressible hemorrhage.</pubmed_title><pmcid>PMC9418157</pmcid><funding_grant_id>R01 DC014461</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>R01 DC018577</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>R01-DC018577</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>R01 DC005788</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>PJT-180232</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>R01-DC014461</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>RGPIN-2018-04146</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>R01-DC005788</funding_grant_id><pubmed_authors>Kastrup C</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Li J</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Strong M</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Gao ZH</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Valiei A</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Jiang S</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Ma Z</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Mongeau L</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Gao Q</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Yang Z</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Ali-Mohamad N</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Amabili M</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Bao G</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Cau M</pubmed_authors></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable><name>Liquid-infused microstructured bioadhesives halt non-compressible hemorrhage.</name><description>Non-compressible hemorrhage is an unmet clinical challenge that accounts for high mortality in trauma.
