Here, we tracked SARS-CoV-2 receptor binding domain (RBD)-specific antibody responses up to six months following Omicron BA.1 breakthrough infection in mRNA-vaccinated individuals. Cross-reactive serum neutralizing antibody and memory B cell (MBC) responses declined by two- to four-fold through the study period. Breakthrough infection elicited minimal de novo Omicron-specific B cell responses but drove affinity maturation of pre-existing cross-reactive MBCs toward BA.1. Public clones dominated the neutralizing antibody response at both early and late time points, and their escape mutation profiles predicted newly emergent Omicron </pubmed_abstract><journal>bioRxiv : the preprint server for biology</journal><pagination>2022.09.21.508922</pagination><full_dataset_link>https://www.ebi.ac.uk/biostudies/studies/S-EPMC9516849</full_dataset_link><repository>biostudies-literature</repository><pubmed_title>Evolution of antibody immunity following Omicron BA.1 breakthrough infection.</pubmed_title><pmcid>PMC9516849</pmcid><funding_grant_id>P30 CA023108</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>UM1 AI144462</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>K99 AI166250</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>R01 AI141707</funding_grant_id><pubmed_authors>Geoghegan JC</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Zhou P</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Walker LM</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Song G</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Starr TN</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Burton DR</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Bloom JD</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Raiees A</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Kaku CI</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Dugan HL</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Khalife P</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Champney ER</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Mielcarz DW</pubmed_authors></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable><name>Evolution of antibody immunity following Omicron BA.1 breakthrough infection.</name><description>Understanding the evolution of antibody immunity following heterologous SAR-CoV-2 breakthrough infection will inform the development of next-generation vaccines.
