Here, we demonstrate that coherent-state microwave photons with an optimal temporal waveform can be efficiently loaded onto a single superconducting artificial atom in a semi-infinite one-dimensional (1D) transmission-line waveguide. Using a weak coherent state (the number of photons (&lt;i>N&lt;/i>) contained in the pulse ≪1) with an exponentially rising waveform, whose time constant matches the decoherence time of the artificial atom, we demonstrate a loading efficiency of 94.2% ± 0.7% from 1D semifree space to the artificial atom. The high loading efficiency is due to time-reversal symmetry: the overlap between the incoming wave and the time-reversed emitted wave is up to 97.1% ± 0</pubmed_abstract><journal>Nano letters</journal><pubmed_title>Deterministic Loading of Microwaves onto an Artificial Atom Using a Time-Reversed Waveform.</pubmed_title><pmcid>PMC9615994</pmcid><funding_grant_id>JPMJMS2061</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>FA2386-20-1-4069</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>JP20H00134</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>109-2636-M-007-007</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>2015-00152</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>FQXi-IAF19-06</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>109-2112-M-002- 022</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>NTU-CC-110L890106</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>2019- 03696</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>W911NF-18-1-0358</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>9610569</funding_grant_id><funding_grant_id>110-2112-M-194-006-MY3</funding_grant_id><pubmed_authors>Lin JJ</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Lu Y</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Lin GD</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Lin WJ</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Lee CP</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Cheng YT</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Chen JC</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Hoi IC</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Lin KT</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Chiang KH</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Chen CY</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Lin YH</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Chuu CS</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Nori F</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Delsing P</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Hsieh MC</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Chien CH</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Frisk Kockum A</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Wen PY</pubmed_authors></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable><name>Deterministic Loading of Microwaves onto an Artificial Atom Using a Time-Reversed Waveform.</name><description>Loading quantum information deterministically onto a quantum node is an important step toward a quantum network.
