Changes in clinical practice over the last few decades, with new interventions and a greater focus on non-invasive monitoring systems, mean it is time to update the SOFA score. As a first step in this process, we propose some possible new variables that could be included in a SOFA 2.0. By so doing, we hope to stimulate debate and discussion to move toward a new, properly validated score that will be fit for modern practice.</pubmed_abstract><journal>Critical care (London, England)</journal><pagination>15</pagination><full_dataset_link>https://www.ebi.ac.uk/biostudies/studies/S-EPMC9837980</full_dataset_link><repository>biostudies-literature</repository><pubmed_title>The Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) Score: has the time come for an update?</pubmed_title><pmcid>PMC9837980</pmcid><pubmed_authors>Azoulay E</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Prescott HC</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Summers C</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Piquilloud L</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Rezende E</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Timsit JF</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Myatra SN</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>De Waele JJ</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Martin GS</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Gershengorn HB</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Jung C</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Fujii T</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Coopersmith CM</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>McLean AS</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Moreno R</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Hernandez G</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Tavares M</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Singer M</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Rhodes A</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Soares M</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>de Lange DW</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Vincent JL</pubmed_authors><pubmed_authors>Takala J</pubmed_authors></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable><name>The Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) Score: has the time come for an update?</name><description>The Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score was developed more than 25 years ago to provide a simple method of assessing and monitoring organ dysfunction in critically ill patients.
