How both pathways communicate and control liver metabolic functions are largely unknown. Detecting core components of Wnt and Hh signaling and mathematical modeling showed that both pathways in healthy liver act largely complementary to each other in the pericentral (Wnt) and the periportal zone (Hh) and communicate mainly by mutual repression. The Wnt/Hh module inversely controls the spatiotemporal operation of various liver metabolic pathways, as revealed by transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome analyses. Shifting the balance to Wnt (activation) or Hh (inhibition) causes pericentralization and periportalization of liver functions, respectively. Thus, homeostasis of the Wnt/Hh module is essential for maintaining proper liver metabolism and to avoid the development of certain metabolic diseases. With caution due to minor species-specific differences, these conclusions may hold for human liver as well."],"pubmed_title":["Mutual Zonated Interactions of Wnt and Hh Signaling Are Orchestrating the Metabolism of the Adult Liver in Mice and Human."],"pubmed_authors":["Kolbe Erik E, Aleithe Susanne S, Rennert Christiane C, Spormann Luise L, Ott Fritzi F, Meierhofer David D, Gajowski Robert R, Stöpel Claus C, Hoehme Stefan S, Kücken Michael M, Brusch Lutz L, Seifert Michael M, von Schoenfels Witigo W, Schafmayer Clemens C, Brosch Mario M, Hofmann Ute U, Damm Georg G, Seehofer Daniel D, Hampe Jochen J, Gebhardt Rolf R, Matz-Soja Madlen M"],"description_synonyms":["Dm DWnt3/5, DWnt-5, Crosstalk, DWnt-4, NPIPA, Dint-1, l(2)rO727, DmelCG4889, Cross Reaction, l(2)wg, wgl, temporal, DWnt-3/5, jecur, Cross Reactivity., wnt-4, spd, int-1, clone 2.4, D-wnt-2, morpheus, Dm-1, Dm-2, Dm-3, DmelCG1916, Dm Wg, DWint-1, Wnt-4, l(2)02657, Wnt-1, CG4889, Wnt-3, Wnt-2, DWnt3/5, fg, Cross-reaction, I, anon-WO03040301.228, DmelCG6407, NPIP, anon-EST:Liang-2.4, WG, CG4698, iecur, Dwnt-2, Dwnt-3, dWnt, Wnt/Wg, DWnt5, Dm DWnt2, WNT, Wnt, DWnt4, Wnt1, Dm DWnt4, DWnt3, DWnt2, Wnt3, wnt4, wnt3, Livers, wnt2, wnt1, Wnt3/5, CG1916, DmelCG4698, Dwnt5, Dwnt-5, Dwnt4, wnt5, Br, Wg, Cross-reactive, dWnt2, DWnt-3, DWnt-2, DWnt-1, wnt, incidence, Gla, Sp, CG6407"],"pubmed_title_synonyms":["biochemical pathways, Dm DWnt3/5, 3.4.22.-, Metabolic Process, DWnt-5, DWnt-4, human being, Dint-1, DmelCG4889, Laboratory, Processes, adult stage, Mus domesticus, Metabolic Concepts, l(2)wg, mini-ICE, CASP-14, Metabolic Processes, House Mouse, DWnt-3/5, jecur, Human, wnt-4, int-1, Homo sapiens, House, Metabolism, Dm-1, Dm-2, Dm-3, DmelCG1916, Concepts, Mus musculus domesticus, Dm Wg, Metabolism Concept, Wnt-4, Phenomenon, Metabolism Phenomena, Mice, l(2)02657, Man, Wnt-1, adult, Wnt-3, Wnt-2, Man (Taxonomy), I, DmelCG6407, catabolism, Swiss, iecur, Metabolic Concept, Swiss Mice, metabolic process resulting in cell growth, dWnt, Wnt/Wg, DWnt5, WNT, Wnt, DWnt4, Wnt1, DWnt3, DWnt2, Wnt3, wnt4, wnt3, wnt2, wnt1, Wnt3/5, DmelCG4698, Dwnt5, Dwnt4, wnt5, Br, biotransformation, dWnt2, Catabolism, wnt, Sp, single organism signaling, degradation, Process, l(2)rO727, metabolism resulting in cell growth, Modern, CASP14, mouse, wgl, Concept, Metabolic Phenomena, Metabolism Concepts, spd, clone 2.4, Mus, D-wnt-2, Mini-ICE, Phenomena, secretion, DWint-1, metabolism, Adults, human., CG4889, Metabolic Phenomenon, DWnt3/5, fg, Mus musculus, multicellular organism metabolic process, biodegradation, Caspase-14 subunit p10, anon-WO03040301.228, Metabolic, mice, anon-EST:Liang-2.4, WG, CG4698, Swiss Mouse, Dwnt-2, Dwnt-3, House Mice, Caspase-14 subunit p19, MICE, Dm DWnt2, Dm DWnt4, Laboratory Mice, domesticus, Livers, CG1916, signalling process, Dwnt-5, Modern Man, Wg, Mouse, DWnt-3, DWnt-2, DWnt-1, Laboratory Mouse, Gla, CG6407, Anabolism"],"pubmed_abstract_synonyms":["biochemical pathways, Dm DWnt3/5, Metabolic Process, DWnt-5, DWnt-4, single-organism developmental process, 2410041A17Rik, Dint-1, DmelCG4889, ACTG, ACTE, adult stage, postnatal development, Metabolic Concepts, Gene Expression Profile, l(2)wg, growth and development, CSMF, fs(1)M34, Profiles, sci, csp2, Act5, Catenin, prevention, l(1)G0420, DmelCG12051, wnt-4, int-1, Dm-1, Dm-2, Dm-3, DmelCG1916, Concepts, HOW, How, HEL-176, CG4601, Dm Wg, Metabolism Concept, Wnt-4, Phenomenon, prevention and control, l(2)02657, Wnt-1, adult, l(3)j5D5, Wnt-3, Wnt-2, Metabolic Profiles, 24B, A, C, Thesaurismosis, cyt5C, Man (Taxonomy), I, reference sample, DHO, catabolism, Metabolic disease, stru, iecur, CG18572, metabolic process resulting in cell growth, l(3)S053606, DWnt5, CG10293, WNT, Wnt, DWnt4, Signatures, DWnt3, DWnt2, preventive measures, l(3)j5B5, NOR-1, Dwnt5, Expression Signature, act 42A, Dwnt4, Ac5C, Br, CG4027, Transcriptomes, biotransformation, ACT, dWnt2, Act, METABOLISM DISORDER NOS, MD -
