We identified 1,644 differentially expressed genes (DEGs; FDR<0.05) in the placenta of children with autism compared to the control sub-cohort. The top enriched pathways related to mitochondrial function, oxidative stress and ribosomal pathways. CYP1A1, the most important xenobiotic-metabolising enzyme of the placenta, was the top downregulated DEG in the placenta of children with autism, while immuno-regulatory human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-related genes were among the top upregulated DEGs. We also used sparse partial least squares discriminant analysis to predict autism from the transcriptomic data. This approach resulted in a median sensitivity of 0.57 and median specificity of 0.92 for predicting subsequent autism diagnosis.","dates":{"publication":"2026/08/31"},"accession":"GSE279194","cross_references":{"GSM":["GSM8564036","GSM8563981","GSM8563980","GSM8564035","GSM8564034","GSM8564033","GSM8564032","GSM8564031","GSM8564030","GSM8563989","GSM8563988","GSM8563987","GSM8563986","GSM8563985","GSM8563984","GSM8564039","GSM8563983","GSM8564038","GSM8563982","GSM8564037","GSM8564025","GSM8564024","GSM8564023","GSM8564022","GSM8564021","GSM8564020","GSM8564140","GSM8564141","GSM8564142","GSM8564029","GSM8564028","GSM8564027","GSM8564026","GSM8564050","GSM8564058","GSM8564057","GSM8564056","GSM8564055","GSM8564054","GSM8564053","GSM8564052","GSM8564051","GSM8564059","GSM8564047","GSM8563992","GSM8564046","GSM8563991","GSM8563990","GSM8564045","GSM8564044","GSM8564043","GSM8564042","GSM8564041","GSM8564040","GSM8563999","GSM8563998","GSM8563997","GSM8563996","GSM8563995","GSM8563994","GSM8564049","GSM8563993","GSM8564048","GSM8564072","GSM8564071","GSM8564070","GSM8564114","GSM8564079","GSM8564115","GSM8564116","GSM8564078","GSM8564117","GSM8564077","GSM8564076","GSM8564118","GSM8564119","GSM8564075","GSM8564074","GSM8564073","GSM8564110","GSM8564111","GSM8564112","GSM8564113","GSM8564061","GSM8564060","GSM8564103","GSM8564069","GSM8564104","GSM8564068","GSM8564067","GSM8564105","GSM8564066","GSM8564106","GSM8564107","GSM8564065","GSM8564064","GSM8564108","GSM8564063","GSM8564109","GSM8564062","GSM8564100","GSM8564101","GSM8564102","GSM8564094","GSM8564093","GSM8564092","GSM8564091","GSM8564090","GSM8564136","GSM8564014","GSM8564013","GSM8564137","GSM8564012","GSM8564138","GSM8564139","GSM8564011","GSM8564099","GSM8564010","GSM8564098","GSM8564097","GSM8564096","GSM8564095","GSM8564130","GSM8564131","GSM8564019","GSM8564018","GSM8564132","GSM8564133","GSM8564017","GSM8564134","GSM8564016","GSM8564015","GSM8564135","GSM8564083","GSM8564082","GSM8564081","GSM8564080","GSM8564125","GSM8564003","GSM8564002","GSM8564126","GSM8564001","GSM8564127","GSM8564089","GSM8564088","GSM8564000","GSM8564128","GSM8564087","GSM8564129","GSM8564086","GSM8564085","GSM8564084","GSM8564009","GSM8564008","GSM8564120","GSM8564007","GSM8564121","GSM8564122","GSM8564006","GSM8564005","GSM8564123","GSM8564004","GSM8564124"],"GPL":["24676"],"GSE":["279194"],"taxon":["Homo sapiens"]}}
