The added flavors are considered safe for oral ingestion, however long-term respiratory effects remain unknown and unassessed. This study aimed to systematically investigate the intrinsic toxicity of individual flavors in a submerged lung cell model and in aerosolized form having a more complex composition using an air-liquid interface (ALI) lung cell model. 16HBE14o- bronchial epithelial cells were exposed in submerged condition for 24 h to non-cytotoxic doses of cinnamaldehyde, eugenol, vanillin and diacetyl. Cells were exposed at ALI to aerosols of self-made e-liquids containing 70 µg mL-1 cinnamaldehyde, eugenol, or vanillin for 10 min with 24 h post-exposure. Transcriptomic changes were analyzed using the Clariom™ S assay in order to understand mechanistic toxicity due to flavoring exposure.</description><dates><publication>2026/09/30</publication></dates><accession>GSE291703</accession><cross_references><GSM>GSM8840380</GSM><GSM>GSM8840381</GSM><GSM>GSM8840401</GSM><GSM>GSM8840402</GSM><GSM>GSM8840403</GSM><GSM>GSM8840404</GSM><GSM>GSM8840405</GSM><GSM>GSM8840406</GSM><GSM>GSM8840407</GSM><GSM>GSM8840408</GSM><GSM>GSM8840382</GSM><GSM>GSM8840383</GSM><GSM>GSM8840384</GSM><GSM>GSM8840385</GSM><GSM>GSM8840386</GSM><GSM>GSM8840387</GSM><GSM>GSM8840388</GSM><GSM>GSM8840400</GSM><GSM>GSM8840389</GSM><GSM>GSM8840390</GSM><GSM>GSM8840391</GSM><GSM>GSM8840392</GSM><GSM>GSM8840409</GSM><GSM>GSM8840379</GSM><GSM>GSM8840412</GSM><GSM>GSM8840393</GSM><GSM>GSM8840394</GSM><GSM>GSM8840395</GSM><GSM>GSM8840396</GSM><GSM>GSM8840397</GSM><GSM>GSM8840398</GSM><GSM>GSM8840410</GSM><GSM>GSM8840399</GSM><GSM>GSM8840377</GSM><GSM>GSM8840411</GSM><GSM>GSM8840378</GSM><GPL>23159</GPL><GSE>291703</GSE><taxon>Homo sapiens</taxon></cross_references></HashMap>
