The seed is a conserved sequence located at the 5'-end of the miRNA, and its specific pairing with the target mRNA is essential for target regulation. Surprisingly, we observed that miR-106a can bind to targets in place of let-7a despite the entirely different seed sequences. This binding does not depend on the seed sequence of miR-106a but instead relies on the extensive pairing on its 3'-end that shows homology with the let-7a seed sequence. miR-106a binding does not induce direct regulation of the bound targets. It shields them from seed-mediated pairing with let-7 family members, leading to competition for pairing with the same sequence in the target mRNA and resulting in two opposing functional outcomes: target repression by let-7a or target shielding by miR-106a. We conclude that by preventing let -7a from repressing oncogenic targets, the noncanonical binding of miR-106a contributes to cancer development.</description><dates><publication>2026/08/14</publication></dates><accession>GSE303559</accession><cross_references><GSM>GSM9130679</GSM><GSM>GSM9130677</GSM><GSM>GSM9130678</GSM><GSM>GSM9130686</GSM><GSM>GSM9130687</GSM><GSM>GSM9130684</GSM><GSM>GSM9130685</GSM><GSM>GSM9130682</GSM><GSM>GSM9130683</GSM><GSM>GSM9130680</GSM><GSM>GSM9130681</GSM><GSM>GSM9130688</GSM><GSM>GSM9130689</GSM><GSM>GSM9130697</GSM><GSM>GSM9130698</GSM><GSM>GSM9130610</GSM><GSM>GSM9130695</GSM><GSM>GSM9130696</GSM><GSM>GSM9130693</GSM><GSM>GSM9130694</GSM><GSM>GSM9130691</GSM><GSM>GSM9130692</GSM><GSM>GSM9130690</GSM><GSM>GSM9130619</GSM><GSM>GSM9130617</GSM><GSM>GSM9130618</GSM><GSM>GSM9130615</GSM><GSM>GSM9130616</GSM><GSM>GSM9130613</GSM><GSM>GSM9130614</GSM><GSM>GSM9130611</GSM><GSM>GSM9130699</GSM><GSM>GSM9130612</GSM><GSM>GSM9130620</GSM><GSM>GSM9130621</GSM><GSM>GSM9130628</GSM><GSM>GSM9130629</GSM><GSM>GSM9130626</GSM><GSM>GSM9130627</GSM><GSM>GSM9130624</GSM><GSM>GSM9130625</GSM><GSM>GSM9130622</GSM><GSM>GSM9130623</GSM><GSM>GSM9130631</GSM><GSM>GSM9130632</GSM><GSM>GSM9130630</GSM><GSM>GSM9130639</GSM><GSM>GSM9130637</GSM><GSM>GSM9130638</GSM><GSM>GSM9130635</GSM><GSM>GSM9130636</GSM><GSM>GSM9130633</GSM><GSM>GSM9130634</GSM><GSM>GSM9130642</GSM><GSM>GSM9130643</GSM><GSM>GSM9130640</GSM><GSM>GSM9130641</GSM><GSM>GSM9640524</GSM><GSM>GSM9640523</GSM><GSM>GSM9640526</GSM><GSM>GSM9640525</GSM><GSM>GSM9640522</GSM><GSM>GSM9640521</GSM><GSM>GSM9130648</GSM><GSM>GSM9130649</GSM><GSM>GSM9130646</GSM><GSM>GSM9130647</GSM><GSM>GSM9130644</GSM><GSM>GSM9130645</GSM><GSM>GSM9130653</GSM><GSM>GSM9130654</GSM><GSM>GSM9130651</GSM><GSM>GSM9130652</GSM><GSM>GSM9130650</GSM><GSM>GSM9130659</GSM><GSM>GSM9130657</GSM><GSM>GSM9130658</GSM><GSM>GSM9130655</GSM><GSM>GSM9130656</GSM><GSM>GSM9130664</GSM><GSM>GSM9130665</GSM><GSM>GSM9130662</GSM><GSM>GSM9130663</GSM><GSM>GSM9130660</GSM><GSM>GSM9130661</GSM><GSM>GSM9130705</GSM><GSM>GSM9130703</GSM><GSM>GSM9130704</GSM><GSM>GSM9130701</GSM><GSM>GSM9130668</GSM><GSM>GSM9130669</GSM><GSM>GSM9130702</GSM><GSM>GSM9130666</GSM><GSM>GSM9130667</GSM><GSM>GSM9130700</GSM><GSM>GSM9130675</GSM><GSM>GSM9130676</GSM><GSM>GSM9130673</GSM><GSM>GSM9130674</GSM><GSM>GSM9130671</GSM><GSM>GSM9130672</GSM><GSM>GSM9130670</GSM><GPL>18573</GPL><GSE>303559</GSE><taxon>Homo sapiens</taxon><PMID>[42598859]</PMID></cross_references></HashMap>
