Minimum lethal concentrations (MLCs) for metronidazole (MTZ), tinidazole (TDZ), and secnidazole (SEC) were determined using a drug susceptibility assay. Transcriptome profiling was performed for 15 MTZ-sensitive (MTZ-S, MLC < 50µg/mL) and 15 MTZ-resistant (MTZ-R, MLC ≥ 50µg/mL) isolates using next generation RNA-sequencing. Bioinformatics analyses identified differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Among MTZ-R isolates, 6 exhibited MLCs of 50µg/mL, 5 had MLCs between 100-200 µg/mL, and 4 had MLCs ≥ 400 µg/mL. The low-, intermediate-, and high-level MLC resistant isolates were compared to the MTZ-S isolates and transcriptomic profiling identified 154, 425, and 175 DEGs respectively. MTZ-resistant T. vaginalis isolates exhibited altered expression of virulence factor genes compared to sensitive isolates, with variations in gene expression observed across different MLC levels.","dates":{"publication":"2026/04/15"},"accession":"GSE326939","cross_references":{"GSM":["GSM9643908","GSM9643909","GSM9643906","GSM9643907","GSM9643904","GSM9643905","GSM9643872","GSM9643873","GSM9643870","GSM9643871","GSM9643913","GSM9643914","GSM9643911","GSM9643878","GSM9643912","GSM9643879","GSM9643876","GSM9643877","GSM9643910","GSM9643874","GSM9643875","GSM9643939","GSM9643937","GSM9643938","GSM9643861","GSM9643862","GSM9643860","GSM9643869","GSM9643902","GSM9643903","GSM9643900","GSM9643867","GSM9643868","GSM9643901","GSM9643865","GSM9643866","GSM9643863","GSM9643864","GSM9643928","GSM9643929","GSM9643926","GSM9643927","GSM9643894","GSM9643850","GSM9643851","GSM9643895","GSM9643892","GSM9643893","GSM9643890","GSM9643891","GSM9643935","GSM9643858","GSM9643936","GSM9643859","GSM9643933","GSM9643856","GSM9643934","GSM9643857","GSM9643931","GSM9643854","GSM9643898","GSM9643932","GSM9643855","GSM9643899","GSM9643852","GSM9643896","GSM9643897","GSM9643930","GSM9643853","GSM9643919","GSM9643917","GSM9643918","GSM9643915","GSM9643916","GSM9643883","GSM9643884","GSM9643881","GSM9643882","GSM9643880","GSM9643924","GSM9643925","GSM9643889","GSM9643922","GSM9643923","GSM9643920","GSM9643887","GSM9643888","GSM9643921","GSM9643885","GSM9643886"],"GPL":["36772"],"GSE":["326939"],"taxon":["Trichomonas vaginalis"]}}
