X-ray irradiation during organogenesis can have profound detrimental effects, depending on the developmental stage and irradiating energy. In this study, we examined the impact of X-ray irradiation on zebrafish development at 36 h post-fertilization and observed marked jaw malformation, which was alleviated by folic acid pretreatment. Mechanistic studies revealed that folic acid pretreatment suppressed irradiation-induced production of reactive oxygen species. Transcriptome analysis performed at 24 h and 48 h post-irradiation revealed dysregulated expression of apolipoprotein A-IV a (apoa4a), methionine adenosyltransferase 1A (mat1a), heat shock protein 90 alpha class A member 1 tandem duplicate 1 (hsp90aa1.1), FKBP prolyl isomerase 5 (fkbp5), plac8 onzin related protein 3 (ponzr3), and prostaglandin E synthase 3a (ptges3a), which was not observed in zebrafish treated with folic acid-treated before the irradiation. These findings suggest that folic acid alleviates X-ray irradiation-induced jaw malformation in zebrafish, at least in part, by reducing oxidative stress and ameliorating dysregulated gene expression.</description><dates><publication>2026/07/08</publication></dates><accession>GSE334519</accession><cross_references><GSM>GSM9790226</GSM><GSM>GSM9790227</GSM><GSM>GSM9790228</GSM><GSM>GSM9790229</GSM><GSM>GSM9790190</GSM><GSM>GSM9790191</GSM><GSM>GSM9790192</GSM><GSM>GSM9790193</GSM><GSM>GSM9790194</GSM><GSM>GSM9790195</GSM><GSM>GSM9790196</GSM><GSM>GSM9790197</GSM><GSM>GSM9790230</GSM><GSM>GSM9790198</GSM><GSM>GSM9790231</GSM><GSM>GSM9790232</GSM><GSM>GSM9790199</GSM><GSM>GSM9790233</GSM><GSM>GSM9790234</GSM><GSM>GSM9790235</GSM><GSM>GSM9790236</GSM><GSM>GSM9790159</GSM><GSM>GSM9790215</GSM><GSM>GSM9790216</GSM><GSM>GSM9790217</GSM><GSM>GSM9790218</GSM><GSM>GSM9790219</GSM><GSM>GSM9790180</GSM><GSM>GSM9790181</GSM><GSM>GSM9790182</GSM><GSM>GSM9790183</GSM><GSM>GSM9790184</GSM><GSM>GSM9790185</GSM><GSM>GSM9790186</GSM><GSM>GSM9790220</GSM><GSM>GSM9790187</GSM><GSM>GSM9790221</GSM><GSM>GSM9790188</GSM><GSM>GSM9790189</GSM><GSM>GSM9790222</GSM><GSM>GSM9790223</GSM><GSM>GSM9790224</GSM><GSM>GSM9790225</GSM><GSM>GSM9790204</GSM><GSM>GSM9790248</GSM><GSM>GSM9790249</GSM><GSM>GSM9790205</GSM><GSM>GSM9790206</GSM><GSM>GSM9790207</GSM><GSM>GSM9790208</GSM><GSM>GSM9790209</GSM><GSM>GSM9790170</GSM><GSM>GSM9790171</GSM><GSM>GSM9790172</GSM><GSM>GSM9790173</GSM><GSM>GSM9790250</GSM><GSM>GSM9790174</GSM><GSM>GSM9790251</GSM><GSM>GSM9790252</GSM><GSM>GSM9790175</GSM><GSM>GSM9790176</GSM><GSM>GSM9790253</GSM><GSM>GSM9790177</GSM><GSM>GSM9790210</GSM><GSM>GSM9790254</GSM><GSM>GSM9790178</GSM><GSM>GSM9790211</GSM><GSM>GSM9790212</GSM><GSM>GSM9790179</GSM><GSM>GSM9790213</GSM><GSM>GSM9790214</GSM><GSM>GSM9790237</GSM><GSM>GSM9790238</GSM><GSM>GSM9790239</GSM><GSM>GSM9790160</GSM><GSM>GSM9790161</GSM><GSM>GSM9790162</GSM><GSM>GSM9790163</GSM><GSM>GSM9790240</GSM><GSM>GSM9790164</GSM><GSM>GSM9790241</GSM><GSM>GSM9790242</GSM><GSM>GSM9790165</GSM><GSM>GSM9790166</GSM><GSM>GSM9790243</GSM><GSM>GSM9790200</GSM><GSM>GSM9790244</GSM><GSM>GSM9790167</GSM><GSM>GSM9790201</GSM><GSM>GSM9790245</GSM><GSM>GSM9790168</GSM><GSM>GSM9790169</GSM><GSM>GSM9790246</GSM><GSM>GSM9790202</GSM><GSM>GSM9790203</GSM><GSM>GSM9790247</GSM><GPL>23085</GPL><GSE>334519</GSE><taxon>Danio rerio</taxon><PMID>[42385180]</PMID></cross_references></HashMap>
