The significant mortality is largely caused by late diagnosis, due to confusing, unspecific symptoms and the absence of effective tools for early diagnosis. MicroRNAs are small non-coding RNA molecules that regulate gene expression. They have been extensively studied as promising circulating biomarkers for the diagnosis and monitoring of various diseases. Among body fluids, saliva accurately reflects systemic pathophysiological conditions including cancer, making it a promising diagnostic resource for screening purposes.
