Short-term studies have linked such practices to reduced pro-inflammatory gene expression and improved immune indices, but whether sustained multi-year practice produces a stable transcriptional phenotype has not been established. We profiled whole blood gene expression in 30 long-term Art of Living practitioners and 30 non-practitioner controls recruited from the same community. Practitioners followed the standard regimen of SSM for 20 minutes twice daily and SKY for approximately 25 minutes once daily, sustained for at least 10 years (mean 15.8, range 10-26 years). Because diet, alcohol, tobacco and socio-economic background strongly confound the blood transcriptome, all participants were vegetarian, abstained from alcohol, tobacco and recreational drugs, and came from a comparable socio-economic and geographic setting; the groups were matched on age, sex, body mass index and lifestyle, and differed by design only in the presence of a sustained meditation practice. Every practitioner followed both components daily, so these data characterize the combined SSM and SKY protocol rather than either practice in isolation. The dataset provides a lifestyle-matched reference for the transcriptional correlates of sustained practice, for comparison against signatures of chronic stress and against short-term mind body intervention datasets.","dates":{"publication":"2026/09/30"},"accession":"GSE348248","cross_references":{"GSM":["GSM10069082","GSM10069081","GSM10069080","GSM10069042","GSM10069041","GSM10069040","GSM10069046","GSM10069045","GSM10069044","GSM10069043","GSM10069039","GSM10069038","GSM10069037","GSM10069036","GSM10069053","GSM10069052","GSM10069051","GSM10069050","GSM10069057","GSM10069056","GSM10069055","GSM10069054","GSM10069049","GSM10069048","GSM10069047","GSM10069060","GSM10069064","GSM10069063","GSM10069062","GSM10069061","GSM10069068","GSM10069024","GSM10069067","GSM10069023","GSM10069066","GSM10069065","GSM10069059","GSM10069058","GSM10069071","GSM10069070","GSM10069031","GSM10069075","GSM10069074","GSM10069030","GSM10069073","GSM10069072","GSM10069079","GSM10069035","GSM10069034","GSM10069078","GSM10069077","GSM10069033","GSM10069076","GSM10069032","GSM10069028","GSM10069027","GSM10069026","GSM10069025","GSM10069069","GSM10069029"],"GPL":["34284"],"GSE":["348248"],"taxon":["Homo sapiens"]}}
