Because of the diverse nature of the gene families involved, this progress has largely relied on genomic data. As a consequence, progress has been limited to a small subset of species with extensive genomic information. For Lepidoptera, a large order historically crucial to olfactory research, this has restricted advances to the domesticated species Bombyx mori. Due to the limited behavioral repertoire and non-existent ecological importance of Bombyx, molecular data on the tobacco hornworm Manduca sexta, is of utmost importance, notwithstanding its position as a classical olfactory model and its complex natural behavior. Here we present the use of transcriptomic and microarray data to identify members of the main olfactory gene families of Manduca. To assess the quality of our data, we correlate information on expressed receptor genes with new detailed morphological data on the antennal lobe. Finally, we compare the expression of the near-complete transcript sets in male and female antennae."],"repository":["ENA"],"description_synonyms":["Hornworm, sextas, Transcriptome, Manducas, Tobacco Hornworms, Transcriptome Profile, Tobacco Hornworm, Profile, Expression Profiles, Gene Expression Profile, Gene, Profiles, Signatures, whole transcriptome, Sphinx sexta, Gene Expression, Hornworms, Expression Signature, Manduca, Gene Expression Profiles, Expression Signatures, Gene Expression Signatures, tobacco hornworm, Transcriptomes, Tobacco, tomato hornworm <Manduca sexta>., hornblower, Gene Expression Signature, Signature, Carolina sphinx, Manduca sexta, Expression Profile, Manduca sextas, tobacco hawkmoth, Transcriptome Profiles, tomato hornworm"],"name_synonyms":["Hornworm, Svc, sextas, Bru, Transcriptome, Col4a-1, Manducas, Raw, Tobacco Hornworms, Transcriptome Profile, Tobacco Hornworm, Profile, Expression Profiles, Gene Expression Profile, Gene, Profiles, Signatures, whole transcriptome, Gene Expression, Hornworms, Manduca, Expression Signature, Gene Expression Profiles, data., Expression Signatures, Gene Expression Signatures, Transcriptomes, Tobacco, Gene Expression Signature, Del(8)44H, Signature, Manduca sexta, Expression Profile, Manduca sextas, Transcriptome Profiles"],"additional_accession":[]},"is_claimable":false,"name":"Manduca antennal transcriptome raw 454 data","description":"The antennal transcriptome of the tobacco hornworm (Manduca sexta)","dates":{"last_updated":"2016-05-20","first_public":"2011-04-02"},"accession":"PRJEB2429","cross_references":{}}
