We performed whole genome sequencing for the isolates in this outbreak and compared them with historical genomes from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Haiti. We generated data that provides important insights in predicting disease transmission patterns especially between bordering countries, monitoring evolution of new variants and identifying the emergence of virulent and antimicrobial resistant strains.
