Previous work has suggested a possible role for microRNAs (miRNAs) in determining the susceptibility of osteosarcomas to treatment but formal miRNA-based outcome models have not been reported. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) specimens may be a unique approach for such studies in a rare malignancy. We used supervised principal components analysis and logistic regression to study survival and chemoresponse endpoints, and miRNA activity and gene set analysis algorithms to study miRNA regulatory networks using mRNA data. Our study also creates a paradigm for FFPE-based miRNA clinical biomarker research in rare tumors. Overall design: 26 unique pairs of biopsy and surgical resection specimens were profiled. Paired samples are denoted in the Sample 'characteristics' field.</long_description><repository>ENA</repository><description_synonyms>Osteosarcoma of bone (disorder), Osteochondrosarcoma, Osteosarcoma of bone, RNA, human being, Osteogenic Sarcomas, Osteogenic sarcoma, Osteosarcoma - disorder, stRNA, Modern, Small Temporal RNA, Primary, Tumor, Osteogenic, Human, Osteogenic Sarcoma, Small, Micro RNA, Homo sapiens, [M]Osteosarcoma NOS, NOS, cytopathology, Osteoblastic osteosarcoma, pre-miRNA, Man, Osteosarcomas, pri miRNA, Skeletal sarcoma, Bone Sarcoma, Sarcomas, miRNAs, Sarcoma of the Bone, Small Temporal, Man (Taxonomy), histopathology, Micro, Temporal RNA, Sarcoma of Bone, osteoid sarcoma, Primary MicroRNA, Osteosarcoma, miRNA, Primary miRNA, Biopsies., INSDC_feature:ncRNA, pri-miRNA, Osteoblastic sarcoma, Osseous Sarcoma, human, bone tissue neoplasm, Sarcoma, no ICD-O subtype, no ICD-O subtype (morphologic abnormality), Modern Man, Osteosarcoma Tumors, Osteosarcoma Tumor, MicroRNA, biopsy, pre miRNA, humans, osteosarcoma, Tumors</description_synonyms><name_synonyms>Human, Modern., human being, Man (Taxonomy), Homo sapiens, man, Man, human, Modern Man</name_synonyms></additional><is_claimable>false</is_claimable><name>Homo sapiens</name><description>microRNA profiling and clinical outcomes in human osteosarcoma (biopsy/resection pairs)</description><dates><last_updated>2025-09-24</last_updated><first_public>2014-02-11</first_public></dates><accession>PRJNA169672</accession><cross_references><GEO>GSE39052</GEO><taxon>9606</taxon><PubMed>38946948</PubMed><PubMed>23339462</PubMed></cross_references></HashMap>
