Recent evidence suggests that alternative splicing largely expands the human UGT transcriptome. Results: we establish the quantitative portrait of the UGT transcriptome in major metabolic organs. RNA sequencing uncovered that AS significantly shapes the UGT transcriptome, with variants quantitatively representing up to 35% and 60% UGT transcripts in normal and tumoral tissues respectively. Novel distinctive in-frame sequences were present in 20% alternative transcripts, which potentially encode UGT isoforms with distinct structural and functional features. Conclusions: This work exposes the important quantitative and biological significance of alternative UGT expression likely creating unparalleled protein diversity evolving from enzymes to regulators of cell metabolism. Overall design: Total RNA was extracted from liver, kidney, intestine and colon from multiple human donors. RNA-sequencing was conducted with a Illumina HiSeq 2500 system"],"tag":["xref:PubMed:29438977","xref:PubMed:28440341"],"repository":["ENA"],"description_synonyms":["Products, UGT, Had1, total RNA extract., Transcriptome, human being, Product, Transcriptome Profile, CDGX, Modern, drug, Solute carrier family 35 member A2, Expression Profiles, number, Gene Expression Profile, Gene, DmNST, UDP-Gal/UDP-GalNAc, AI327289, CG6850, Profiles, UDP-galactose transporter, presence, anon-3Bb, DUGT, Human, DmelCG6850, Gene Expression, ugt, count in organism, dNST-2, anon-WO0172774.75, Homo sapiens, UGTL, Expression Signatures, anon-WO0172774.73, Gene Expression Signatures, Pharmaceutical Product, CDG2M, Pharmaceutic, Gene Expression Signature, dNST-1, Expression Profile, Man, CSAT, Transcriptome Profiles, Drugs, EG:100G10.5, UGT1, DmUGT, Man (Taxonomy), Pharmaceutic Preparations, Profile, Sfc8, Tissue, UDP-Gal-Tr, CG2675, UGT2, Signatures, human, Drug, UGAT, Preparations, drugs, DmelCG2675, Ugalt, Expression Signature, medicine, Had-1, Gene Expression Profiles, Pharmaceutical, GT, Modern Man, Transcriptomes, Preparation, Signature, UGALT, Pharmaceutical Products, mUGT1, Pharmaceutical Preparation, Pharmaceuticals"],"name_synonyms":["Human, Modern., human being, Man (Taxonomy), Homo sapiens, man, Man, human, Modern Man"],"additional_accession":[]},"is_claimable":false,"name":"Homo sapiens","description":"Quantitative profiling of the UGT transcriptome in human drug metabolizing tissues [Total RNA]","dates":{"last_updated":"2025-09-24","first_public":"2019-06-04"},"accession":"PRJNA324568","cross_references":{"GEO":["GSE82291"],"taxon":["9606"],"PubMed":["28440341","29438977"]}}
