Moreover, soluble immune-modulating factors secreted from the tumor environment can be difficult to identify in patient serum due to their low abundance. We used an alternative strategy,cell-based assay that uses PBMC “reporters” to predict biologically relevant factors in patient serum. We identified disease-specific transcriptional signatures induced by patient sera with local versus metastatic disease. Overall design: Sera from patients with local and metastatic cervical cancer were used to induce a disease-specific transcriptional signature in cultured, healthy peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). An empirical Bayesian method, EBarrays, was used to identify differentially expressed (DE) genes with a target false discovery rate of <5%. Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA) software was used to detect the top molecular and cellular functions associated with the DE genes. IPA and in silco analysis was used to pinpoint candidate upstream regulators, including cancer-related microRNAs (miRNAs)."],"repository":["ENA"],"description_synonyms":["tumor of the cervix uteri, cancer of the uterine cervix, cervix uteri cancer, cancer of uterine cervix, Cervix Neoplasms, Blood, Neoplasms, cervical neoplasm, Cancer of the Cervix, tumour of the cervix uteri, Uterine Cervical Cancer, Blood Serum, Serum, Cervical., Uterine, CERCA, Cervical Neoplasms, cancer of cervix, Cancer of the Uterine Cervix, metastatic, Cervical Cancer, Uterine Cervical Cancers, Cervix, cervical cancer, Uterine Cervical, Cervical Cancers, Neoplasm, neoplasm of uterine cervix, NOS, Uterine Cervical Neoplasm, Cervical Neoplasm, Cancer of Cervix, Cervical, cervix cancer, cancer of the cervix, tumor of the Cervix Uteri, Cervix Neoplasm, Serums, Cervix Cancer, uterine cervix cancer, Cancer, uterine cervical neoplasm"],"name_synonyms":["Human, Modern., human being, Man (Taxonomy), Homo sapiens, man, Man, human, Modern Man"],"additional_accession":[]},"is_claimable":false,"name":"Homo sapiens","description":"Identification of a serum-induced transcriptional signature associated with metastatic cervical cancer","dates":{"last_updated":"2025-09-24","first_public":"2017-07-02"},"accession":"PRJNA390640","cross_references":{"GEO":["GSE100080"],"taxon":["9606"]}}
