This nuclear-cytoplasmic movement was believed to be unidirectional. However, recent discoveries demonstrated an active shuttling of tRNAs between cytosol and nucleus, named tRNA retrograde transport. This pathway is conserved in eukaryotes, suggesting a fundamental function, however little is known about its role in human cells. Here we report that, in human cells, oxidative stress triggers tRNA retrograde transport, which is rapid and reversible. Next generation sequencing of tRNAs revealed that retrograde transport is selective for certain tRNA species, mostly with shorter 3’ ends. mTOR and PERK regulate tRNA nuclear import, linking it to the endoplasmic reticulum unfolded protein response. Thus tRNA retrograde transport is a new component of the cellular response to oxidative stress."],"repository":["ENA"],"description_synonyms":["DNA Oxidative, Oxidative Stress, RNA, human being, Antioxidative, Modern, Antioxidative Stress, Nitrative Stress, Anti-oxidative Stresses, Damage, Transfer RNA, Stresses, Human, Oxidative Nitrative Stress, tRNA, transfer ribonucleic acid, Oxidative Nitrative, Oxidative DNA, Homo sapiens, Oxidative, Stress Injury, single-organism transport, Oxidative and Nitrosative Stress, Oxidative Nitrative Stresses, Nitro-Oxidative Stress, Oxidative Cleavages, transfer, Cell., Ribonucleic acids, DNA Oxidative Damages, Nitro-Oxidative Stresses, Oxidative Injury, Transfer, Suppressor Transfer, DNA Damage, Man, Oxidative Damages, Oxidative Injuries, Injury, Anti-oxidative Stress, Man (Taxonomy), DNA Oxidative Damage, Oxidative Cleavage, Cleavage, Oxidative DNA Damages, Suppressor, Anti-oxidative, human, Nitro-Oxidative, Oxidative Stress Injuries, Oxidative Stresses, Anti oxidative Stress, Oxidative DNA Damage, Antioxidative Stresses, Modern Man, Stress, Oxidative Stress Injury, transfer RNA, DNA, Nitro Oxidative Stress, Oxidative Damage, Suppressor Transfer RNA"],"additional_accession":[]},"is_claimable":false,"name":"","description":"Oxidative stress triggers selective tRNA retrograde transport in human cells","dates":{"last_updated":"2023-05-19","first_public":"2018-07-26"},"accession":"PRJNA391929","cross_references":{}}
