Transcription profiling by array of Bordetella bronchiseptica strains RB50 and 761 grown in normal or high carbon dioxide conditions


ABSTRACT: Comparison of B. bronchiseptica strains RB50 and 761 grown in either atmospheric concentrations of oxygen and carbon dioxide (normal conditions) or in atmospheric levels of oxygen with the addition of 5% carbon dioxide into a sealed incubator (5% CO2 conditions).

Sensing the environment allows pathogenic bacteria to coordinately regulate gene expression to maximize survival within or outside of a host. Here we show that Bordetella species regulate virulence factor expression in response to carbon dioxide levels that mimic in vivo conditions within the respiratory tract.
