Whole-Slide Histology (WSI) of FFPE Sections from Ardea purpurea Glacier Mummy

ABSTRACT: Whole-slide imaging (WSI) data of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections from a 350-year-old Ardea purpurea (purple heron) glacier mummy are deposited in BioStudies. The WSI files provide slide-wide, high-resolution histomorphological information across multiple anatomical regions (including bone, skeletal muscle, skin, feather quills, and lung-like tissue) and include routine and special stains (H&E, Chromotrop–Aniline Blue, and Grocott’s methenamine silver) used to assess tissue preservation and post-mortem microbial colonization. All other supporting microscopy images (representative light microscopy and fluorescence microscopy) and vibrational spectroscopy datasets (Raman microscopy and ATR-FTIR; including modern reference herons Ardea alba and Ardea cinerea) are publicly available on Figshare: Multimodal Microscopy and Spectroscopy Data of an Avian Glacier Mummy (10.6084/m9.figshare.31134103). Micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) data are publicly available on Figshare (10.6084/m9.figshare.31132681).
