Biological Visions: the geometry of mitosis
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: This image shows the intricate geometry of mitosis. The primary image in the middle shows a floral pattern constructed from a metaphase cell. The "petals" are composed of kinetochore region dual-stained for proteins Astrin (green) and CENP-C (red), arranged into a symmetrical flower motif. The images at the corners show mitotic cell showing unaligned chromosomes (grey) with kinetochores (green/red) forming a whimsical butterfly-like shape. These images are obtained from the Zeiss LSM800 confocal microscope in the DCI core facility.
