Nanostring Immunology V2 panel comparing expression in kidney tissue from lupus nephritis patients at diagnosis (A) and at flare (B)

ABSTRACT: The purpose of the experiment was to compare the transcriptional profile of lupus nephritis kidney tissue at a first flare and expression at a repeated lupus nephritis episode. All samples were laser microdissected into glomerular and tubular compartments and samples were ran in different cartridges. Fourteen lupus nephritis patients and ten normal controls (7 for glomeruli) FFPE samples were laser microdissected and then ran into 5 cartridges for glomeruli and 5 cartridges for tubulointerstitium. This dataset is part of the TransQST collection.

Background
Up to 50% of lupus nephritis (LN) patients experience renal flares after their initial episode of LN. These flares contribute to poor renal outcomes. We postulated that intrarenal immune gene expression is different in flares compared with de novo LN, and conducted these studies to test this hypothesis.
Methods
Glomerular and tubulointerstitial immune gene expression was evaluated in 14 patients who had a kidney biopsy to diagnose LN and another biopsy at their first LN ...[more]
