ABSTRACT: The goal of this project was to understand the functional consequences of plasma biogenic amine serotonin (5-HT) elevation in megakaryocytes by measuring gene expression Total RNA was extracted from the megakaryocytes of mice treated with either 5-HT or saline and global gene expression was measured.

<h4>Background</h4>Serotonin (5-HT) is a biogenic amine that also acts as a mitogen and a developmental signal early in rodent embryogenesis. Genetic and pharmacological disruption of 5-HT signaling causes various diseases and disorders via mediating central nervous system, cardiovascular system, and serious abnormalities on a growing embryo.
