PGN induced transcriptional changes in human neonatal neutrophils


ABSTRACT: We have employed whole genome microarray expression profiling to identify genes differentially expressed in cord blood purified neutrophils after a short-term exposure to peptidoglycan (PGN). PGN induced gene expressions of neonatal neutrophils were measured at 4 hours. Three biological replicates were performed for each treatment group.

In newborn infants, the innate cellular system plays a crucial role in the first line of defense against pathogens. Neutrophils are the most abundant leukocytes, and their response to the commonly encountered nosocomial bacterial (Gram positive) infection in newborns remains largely unclear.
