Characterizing the expression of human olfactory receptor genes


ABSTRACT: We aim, among other things, to characterize olfactory receptor (OR) genes wich are differentially expressed between olfactory epithelium (OE) and other organ tissues, in humans. Six OE samples and ten non-OE samples, including two samples of the following tissues: liver, kidney, lung, testis, and heart.

<h4>Background</h4>Olfactory receptor (OR) genes were discovered more than a decade ago, when Buck and Axel observed that, in rats, certain G-protein coupled receptors are expressed exclusively in the olfactory epithelium.
