Identification of MOL1-dependent genes II

ABSTRACT: We used RNA-seq to generate the transcriptional profile of wild type and mol1-1 mutants in the second internode of the inflorescence stem of 15 to 20 cm tall Arabidopsis. We then used statistical analysis to identify differentially expressed genes that potentially contribute to the mol1-1 mutant phenotype. RNA from three replicates each of WT and mol1-1 mutants were sequenced and differentially expressed genes were identified.

Plants maintain pools of pluripotent stem cells which allow them to constantly produce new tissues and organs. Stem cell homeostasis in shoot and root tips depends on negative regulation by ligand-receptor pairs of the CLE peptide and leucine-rich repeat receptor-like kinase (LRR-RLK) families. However, regulation of the cambium, the stem cell niche required for lateral growth of shoots and roots, is poorly characterized. Here we show that the LRR-RLK MOL1 is necessary for cambium homeostasis in  ...[more]
