Transcription profiling of yeast subjected to different concentrations of caesium chloride salt

ABSTRACT: S. cerevisiae BY4741 (Mata; His3Delta1; leuDelta0; lys2Delta0; ura3Delta0) was grown in YPD at 30 degrees C with aeration to exponential growth phase and was subjected to a different concentrations of Caesium Chloride salt: 0mM, 30mM, 50mM, 100mM, 150mM, 200mM and 250mM 20 minutes at 30 degrees C.

We analyzed the global transcriptional response of Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells exposed to different concentrations of CsCl in the growth medium and at different times after addition. Early responsive genes were mainly involved in cell wall structure and biosynthesis. About half of the induced genes were previously shown to respond to other alkali metal cations in a Hog1-dependent fashion. Western blot analysis confirmed that cesium concentrations as low as 100 mM activate Hog1 phosphorylation  ...[more]
