Impaired development and reduced lung capacity are risk factors of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Previously, our genomewide linkage analysis of C3H/HeJ (C3H) and JF1/Msf (JF1) mouse strains identified quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with the complex traits of dead space volume (Vd), total lung capacity (TLC), lung compliance (CL), and diffusing capacity for CO (D(CO)).
