Dissecting the mechanisms of syncytiotrophoblast regeneration using apical-out human placental organoids
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: The syncytiotrophoblast, the outer layer of the placental villus, is continuously shed into maternal blood and replaced by newly fused vCT. This process needs to be tightly regulated throughout pregnancy to ensure the health of the mother and the fetus. We developed apical-out first trimester placental organoids and by inducing mechanical damage, we aim to study the signaling pathways involved in syncytiotrophoblast regeneration.
