ABSTRACT: This project investigates how aging impacts mitochondrial health and function in skeletal muscle. We will compare young and old muscle samples to identify age-related changes in mitochondrial pathways, focusing on differences between oxidative and glycolytic muscle. By profiling mRNA expression, we aim to uncover molecular mechanisms underlying mitochondrial decline with age and muscle-type–specific vulnerabilities, providing insight into skeletal muscle aging and its contribution to functional decline.
