RNA-Seq data of terminal differentiated cells in Dictyostelium discoideum

ABSTRACT: The intent of the experiment was to gather transcriptomic data from terminally differentiated cell types --spore, stalk, and cup cells-- in a simple multicellular model system, Dictyostelium discoideum, in order to characterize the cell-type specific gene expression patterns. Specifically, we dissociated and collected each cell type from the fruiting bodies of D. discoideum at 24 hours of development. We also collected exponentially growing vegetative cells of D. discoideum.

INSTRUMENT(S): NextSeq 500

ORGANISM(S): Dictyostelium discoideum

Background
A major hallmark of multicellular evolution is increasing complexity by the evolution of new specialized cell types. During Dictyostelid evolution novel specialization occurred within taxon group 4. We here aim to retrace the nature and ancestry of the novel "cup" cells by comparing their transcriptome to that of other cell types.
Results
RNA-Seq was performed on purified mature spore, stalk and cup cells and on vegetative amoebas. Clustering and phylogenetic analyses s ...[more]
