Characterization of mutations in West Nile virus NS4B protein identifies proline residue 54 as a determinant of attenuation

ABSTRACT: The flavivirus genus has conserved NS4B residues at P54, L56, and W103. We sought to determine both in vitro and in vivo which mutations displayed attenuated characteristics for use as potential vaccine candidates.
