Project description:Persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) draining into the coronary sinus is not uncommon, but to the left atrium is a rare condition. Such anomaly may be a cause of unexplained hypoxia in all age groups. It is often diagnosed accidentally during cardiovascular diagnostic work-up or in a contest of other cardiac investigations. We report two cases of these rare PLSVC associations with subsequent medical and surgical management.

Left hepatic vein and persistent left superior vena cava drainage into the coronary sinus with subaortic valve stenosis.

Project description:Persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) and left hepatic vein drainage into the coronary sinus is a very rare combination of thoracic venous anomalies. A literature search revealed only two previously reported cases. PLSVC is associated with congenital heart disease and impulse conduction abnormalities. Subaortic valve stenosis is among these abnormalities. We present an extremely rare case of a 19-year-old woman who presented with PLSVC and left hepatic vein drainage into the coronary sinus associated with subaortic valve stenosis. The vascular anomalies were noted on a computed tomography angiogram of the chest performed for a history of shortness of breath. The patient had been previously diagnosed with and underwent treatment for subaortic valve stenosis at ages 2 and 8. PLSVC increases the incidence of congenital heart disease.

Intravascular lipoma of the inferior vena cava and left renal vein.

Project description:Intravenous lipoma of the inferior vena cava is an incidental finding on contrast-enhanced computed tomography in 0.5% of individuals. We report a case of multiple intravenous lipomas discovered during diagnosis of cholangitis in a 39-year-old woman. Imaging revealed three fatty masses that appeared connected by cordlike structures: one in the left renal vein with wide mural attachment and two in the inferior vena cava, the higher of which was mobile. We hypothesize that these originated as a single lipoma that subsequently divided into three distinct masses. Because mobile masses may cause pulmonary thromboembolism, surgery is recommended in these cases.

Case report of double superior vena cava and double odd vein with hypoplastic left brachiocephalic vein.

Project description:Persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) is a common venous variation that is usually accompanied by an absence of the left brachiocephalic vein, and displays a higher incidence in patients with congenital heart disease. Here, the case of a 57-year-old male patient who was found to have PLSVC on chest computed tomography (CT) during screening for gastric cancer metastasis at the Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai University, is described. Further coronal CT and three-dimensional reconstruction of the chest revealed the patient's double superior vena cava (DSVC), double odd veins, and left brachiocephalic vein dysplasia. The patient did not have congenital heart disease and the case was associated with dysplasia of the left brachiocephalic vein, indicating an unusual and rare venous abnormality. At the time of writing, the patient was receiving antitumour therapy.
