Swinepox virus (SWPV) is responsible for sporadic acute poxvirus infections in swine worldwide, causing a pathognomonic eruptive proliferative dermatitis. Beside direct and congenital transmission, the pig louse <i>Haematopinus suis</i> acts as a mechanical vector and favors virus infection through skin lesions.
