Crayfish Research: A Global Scientometric Analysis Using CiteSpace.

ABSTRACT: A scientometric analysis was conducted to investigate the trends and development of crayfish research in terms of literature published, author, affiliation, and countries' collaborative networks, as well as the co-citation dataset (e.g., author, article, and keywords). The study analyzed 12,039 bibliographic datasets from the Web of Science, using CiteSpace as a tool for the co-citation analysis. The study revealed extraordinary increases in publication trends, with a total of 21,329 authors involved in approximately 80% of countries around the world (163/195) having conducted crayfish research. Unsurprisingly, countries such as the USA and China, followed by European countries, were among the top countries that have published crayfish-related studies. The findings also indicated that "invasive crayfish" was the world's top keyword for crayfish research. Crayfish species are important for both environmental sustainability (invasiveness and species composition) and social wellbeing (aquaculture), which provides directions for research, philanthropic, academic, government, and non-government organizations regarding how to invest limited resources into policies, programs, and research towards the future management of this species. Our study concluded that strategic collaboration among authors, institutions, and countries would be vital to tackle the issue of invasive crayfish species around the world.

Project description:BackgroundAsthma is one of the most common chronic diseases in children globally. In recent decades, advances have been made in understanding the mechanism, diagnosis, treatment and management for childhood asthma, but few studies have explored its knowledge structure and future interests comprehensively.ObjectiveThis scientometric study aims to understand the research status and emerging trends of childhood asthma.MethodsCiteSpace (version 5.8.R3) was used to demonstrate national and institutional collaborations in childhood asthma, analyze research subjects and journal distribution, review research keywords and their clusters, as well as detect research bursts.ResultsA total of 14,340 publications related to childhood asthma were extracted from Web of Science (core database) during January 2011 to December 2021. The results showed that academic activities of childhood asthma had increased steadily in the last decade. Most of the research was conducted by developed countries while China, as a developing country, was also actively engaged in this field. In addition to subjects of allergy and immunology, both public health aspects and ecological environmental impacts on the disease were emphasized recently in this research field. Keywords clustering analysis indicated that research on asthma management and atopy was constantly updated and became the two major research focuses recently, as a significant shift in research hotspots from etiology and diagnosis to atopic march and asthma management was identified. Subgroup analysis for childhood asthma management and atopy suggested that caregiver- or physician-based education and interventions were emerging directions for asthma management, and that asthma should be carefully studied in the context of atopy, together with other allergic diseases.ConclusionsThis study presented a comprehensive and systematic overview of the research status of childhood asthma, provided clues to future research directions, and highlighted two significant research trends of asthma management and atopy in this field.

Project description:BackgroundMultimorbidity and frailty represent emerging global health burdens that have garnered increased attention from researchers over the past two decades. We conducted a scientometric analysis of the scientific literature on the coexistence of multimorbidity and frailty to assess major research domains, trends, and inform future lines of research.MethodsWe systematically retrieved scientific publications on multimorbidity and frailty from the Web of Science Core Collection, spanning from 2003 to 2023. Scientometric analysis was performed using CiteSpace and VOSviewer, enabling the visualization and evaluation of networks comprising co-citation references, co-occurring keywords, countries, institutions, authors, and journals.ResultsA total of 584 eligible publications were included in the analysis. An exponential rise in research interest in multimorbidity and frailty was observed, with an average annual growth rate of 47.92% in publications between 2003 and 2022. Three major research trends were identified: standardized definition and measurement of multimorbidity and frailty, comprehensive geriatric assessment utilizing multimorbidity and frailty instruments for older adults, and the multifaceted associations between these two conditions. The United States of America, Johns Hopkins University, Fried LP, and the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society were identified as the most influential entities within this field, representing the leading country, institution, author, and journal, respectively.ConclusionsScientometric analysis provides invaluable insights to clinicians and researchers involved in multimorbidity and frailty research by identifying intellectual bases and research trends. While the instruments and assessments of multimorbidity and frailty with scientific validity and reliability are of undeniable importance, further investigations are also warranted to unravel the underlying biological mechanisms of interactions between multimorbidity and frailty, explore the mental health aspects among older individuals with multimorbidity and frailty, and refine strategies to reduce prescriptions in this specific population.

Project description:BackgroundPrimary thyroid lymphoma (PTL) is a rare malignancy of the thyroid gland that poses significant clinical challenges due to its rarity and the varied therapeutic approaches it demands. Although recent years have seen an increasing focus on PTL, there is a notable lack of bibliometric analyses that consolidate the evolving research within this field. This study aims to analyze and highlight the research hotspots and trend changes in PTL, elucidating their clinical implications and guiding future research.MethodsWe conducted a systematic bibliometric analysis of literature on PTL published from 2000 to 2023. This involved a structured search in the Web of Science Core Collection, using medical subject headings (MeSH) from the MeSH database to refine and eliminate duplicates, forming a precise search formula. Relevant publications were limited to English-language articles and reviews, which were then processed and analyzed using CiteSpace (6.2.R4) for visualization. The analysis, performed with CiteSpace software, facilitated the visualization of trends and hotspots in PTL research by mapping citation networks and identifying key themes and influential works.ResultsOur search yielded 281 literature records on PTL, demonstrating a curvilinear upward trend in publications over the years. The majority of publications originated from China, with the most influential contributions coming from the United States. Hirokawa Mitsuyoshi and Derringer Ga were identified as the most prolific and most co-cited authors, respectively. Keyword and co-citation analyses indicated a growing interest in clinicopathological features, treatment modalities, survival outcomes of different PTL subtypes, risk factors, complementary diagnostic techniques, and immunotherapeutic approaches.ConclusionsThis bibliometric analysis underscores the significant clinical relevance of understanding the pathologies, diagnostic challenges, and treatment strategies for PTL. The identified research hotspots, particularly in pathological typing, diagnosis and treatment modalities, gene expression profiles, targeted therapies, clinical trials, and survival rates, highlight critical areas requiring continued research focus. These insights have pivotal implications for improving patient outcomes and advancing the clinical management of PTL.
