Global trends and hotspots in IgA nephropathy: a bibliometric analysis and knowledge map visualization from 2012 to 2023.

ABSTRACT:

Objectives

This study aimed to investigate the distribution patterns and research frontiers of international literature and thus present a holistic bibliometric evaluation of the studies on IgA nephropathy.

Methods

The Web of Science Core Collection database was searched for studies of IgA nephropathy from January 2012 to March 2023. The keywords and references are analyzed by CiteSpace, while the countries and institutions are analyzed by VOSviewer.

Results

A total of 2987 publications on IgA nephropathy were included. The country with the most publications was China (n = 1299), and the institution with the most publications was Peking University (n = 139). The most frequent keywords were IgA nephropathy (n = 2013), Oxford classification (n = 482), and diseases (n = 433). The keywords that continue to burst out at high intensity are multicenter study and gut microbiota. Moreover, the top five references for burst strength were also listed.

Conclusions

IgA nephropathy has attracted widespread research interest, particularly in high-prevalence areas. From 2012 to 2023, publications on IgA nephropathy show a linear increase. China is the country with the highest number of publications and Peking University is the institution with the highest number of publications. Current research hotspots and frontiers are mainly multicenter studies related to IgA nephropathy and its exploration with gut microbiota. Overall, we have provided a comprehensive scientometric analysis of IgA nephropathy that will inform researchers and healthcare practitioners.

Project description:IntroductionPolycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common gynecological condition affecting individuals of reproductive age and is linked to the gut microbiome. This study aimed to identify the hotspots and research trends within the domain of the gut microbiome in PCOS through bibliometric analysis.MethodsUtilizing bibliometric techniques, we examined the literature on the gut microbiome in PCOS from the Web of Science Core Collection spanning the period from 2012 to 2023. Analytical tools such as CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Bibliometric R packages were employed to evaluate various metrics, including countries/regions, institutions, authors, co-cited authors, authors' H-index, journals, co-references, and keywords.ResultsA total of 191 publications were identified in the field of gut microbiome in PCOS, with an increase in annual publications from 2018 to 2023. People's Republic of China was the most productive country, followed by the United States of America (USA), India. Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine were the top three most publications institutions. Thackray VG was identified as the most prolific author, holding the highest H-index, while Liu R received the highest total number of citations. The journal "Frontiers in Endocrinology" published the most articles in this domain. The most frequently co-cited reference was authored by Qi XY. The analysis of keyword burst detection identified "bile acids" (2021-2023) as the leading frontier keyword. Additionally, "gut dysbiosis," "phenotypes," "adolescents," "metabolomics," "metabolites," "fecal microbiota transplantation," and "IL-22" have emerged as the primary keywords reflecting recent research trends.ConclusionThis bibliometric analysis explores how the gut microbiome influences endocrine and metabolic disorders related to PCOS, emphasizing its role in the development of PCOS and treatments targeting the gut microbiome. The findings serve as a valuable resource for researchers, enabling them to identify critical hotspots and emerging areas of investigation in this field.

Project description:BackgroundOsteoporosis is characterized by diminished bone density and quality, compromised bone microstructure, and increased bone fragility, culminating in a heightened risk of fracture. Relatively few attempts have been made to survey the breadth of osteoporosis research using bibliometric approaches. This study aims to delineate the current landscape of osteoporosis research, offering clarity and visualization, while also identifying potential future directions for investigation.MethodsWe retrieved and filtered articles and reviews pertaining to osteoporosis from the Web of Science Core Collection database, specifically the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) edition, spanning the years 2014 to 2023. Informatics tools such as CiteSpace and VOSviewer were employed to dissect the intellectual framework, discern trends, and pinpoint focal points of interest within osteoporosis research.ResultsOur dataset comprised 33,928 osteoporosis-related publications, with a notable surge in annual publication numbers throughout the last decade. China and the United States lead in terms of research output. The University of California System contributed substantially to this body of work, with Amgen demonstrating the highest degree of centrality within the network. Cooper Cyrus emerged as a pivotal figure in the field. An analysis of highly-cited studies, co-citation networks, and keyword co-occurrence revealed that recent years have predominantly concentrated on elucidating mechanisms underlying osteoporosis, as well as its diagnosis, prevention, and treatment strategies. Burst detection analyses of citations and keywords highlighted osteoblasts, sarcopenia, gut microbiota, and denosumab as contemporary hotspots within osteoporosis research.ConclusionThis bibliometric analysis has provided a visual representation of the fundamental knowledge structure, prevailing trends, and key focal areas within osteoporosis research. The identification of osteoblasts, sarcopenia, gut microbiota, and denosumab as current hotspots may guide future research endeavors. Continued efforts directed at understanding the mechanisms, fracture outcomes, diagnostics, and therapeutics related to osteoporosis are anticipated to deepen our comprehension of this complex disease.

Project description:ObjectiveTo identify author collaborations and impact; participating countries, institutions, and journals; evaluate the knowledge base; and analyze research hotspots and frontiers in teaching reforms in physiology.MethodsArticles and reviews related to teaching reforms in physiology published between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2021, were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection. Two Scientometric software applications (CiteSpace 5.7 and VOSviewer 1.6.15) were used to perform bibliometric and knowledge-map analysis, generate network maps, and identify research trends and top keywords, authors, co-cited authors, institutions, countries, journals, and references.ResultsThe search identified a total of 2,882 papers in 466 academic journals by 13,895 authors from 4,072 organizations in 67 countries/regions. Physiology teaching reform-related publications increased rapidly over time. Arango-Lasprilla and Rivera published the most papers, while Moseley had the most co-citations. Active collaborations among physiology researchers were noted. Advances in Physiology Education published the most papers on physiology teaching reforms and was also the top co-cited journal in the Medicine/Medical/Clinical, Psychology/Education/Health, and Neurology/Sports/Ophthalmology fields. The United States and University of California published the most physiology teaching publications in the search criteria. Ten references (research articles and reviews) on mechanisms and diseases were identified as the knowledge base. The mainstream research directions were education, Alzheimer's disease, performance, physiology, and risk factors. Mental health and emotion regulation are increasing in significance and may become new hotspots. The research trend to move from the field of pain pathogenesis to the field of neuropsychiatry has become increasingly clear. This tendency away from peripheral system-based disorders to central system-based orders is inextricably linked to further developments in physiological understanding of the brain.ConclusionThis study analyzed the research hot spots and frontiers of teaching reforms on in physiology using bibliometric and visual methods. Based on the results, rehabilitation, neurosciences, and infectious disease are hot topics in physiology. In particular, the pathogenesis of neurological diseases, treatment strategies, and technology updates have gradually become research hotspots. We predict that this trend is closely related to the implementation of brain research programs in various countries. These findings provide helpful references for scholars focusing on physiology education.

Project description:BackgroundPatellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is a prevalent condition in sports medicine, and as sports competitions become more popular, the incidence of sports injuries is on the rise. Despite the increasing research on PFPS, there remains a lack of bibliometric analyses on this topic. The aim of this study was to identify the research hotspots and trends in the field of PFPS by reviewing 23 years of literature in this field.MethodsBy analyzing the literature on PFPS research from 2000 to 2023 in the core dataset of the Web of Science database and utilizing bibliometric tools like CiteSpace 6.1, VOSviewer 1.6.18, R-bibliometrix 4.6.1, Pajek 5.16, and Scimago Graphica 1.0.26, our aim was to gain insights into the current status and key areas of PFPS research. The study examined various aspects including the number of publications, countries, institutions, journals, authors, collaborative networks, keywords, and more. Through the visualization of relevant data, we also attempted to forecast future trends in the field.ResultsThere were 2,444 publications were included in this visualization study, published in 322 journals by 1,247 authors from 818 institutions in 67 countries. The Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy had the highest number of publications, with the USA leading in article count. La Trobe University contributed the most articles, while Rathleff MS and Barton CJ emerged as the most prolific authors. Hip and knee strength and core strength, lower extremity kinematics and biomechanics, females (runners), muscle activation, risk factors, gait retraining, clinical practice guidelines, and rehabilitation were research hotspot keywords.ConclusionCurrent research suggests that there is still significant potential for the development of PFPS research. Key areas of focus include the clinical effectiveness of combined hip and knee strengthening to address PFPS, characterization of lower limb kinematics and biomechanics, gait retraining, risk factors, and clinical practice guidelines. Future research could explore the effectiveness of innovative exercise therapies such as blood flow restricting training, gait retraining, and neuromuscular control training for PFPS improvement. Further investigation into gait retraining for runners, particularly females, and clinical efficacy study of a novel PRP formulation for the treatment of PFPS.

Project description:BackgroundThe incidence of muscle atrophy or sports injuries is increasing with time and population aging, thereby attracting considerable attention to muscle generation research. Muscle satellite cells, which play an important role in this process, lack comprehensive literature regarding their use for muscle regeneration. Hence, this study aimed to analyze the hotspots and trends in satellite cell research from 2010 to 2023, providing a reference for muscle regeneration research.MethodsStudies on satellite cells' role in muscle regeneration from 2010 to 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Using CiteSpace and VOSviewer, we analyzed annual publications, authors and co-citing authors, countries and institutions, journals and co-citing journals, co-citing references, and keywords.ResultsFrom 2010 to 2023, 1468 papers were retrieved, indicating an overall increasing trend in the number of annual publications related to satellite cells in muscle regeneration. The United States had the highest number of publications, while the Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale was the institution with the most publications. Among journals, " PloS One" had the highest number of published papers, and "Cell" emerged as the most co-cited journal. A total of 7425 authors were involved, with Michael A. Rudnicki being the author with the highest number of publications and the most co-cited author. The most cited reference was "Satellite cells and the muscle stem cell niche." Among keywords, "satellite cells" was the most common, with "heterogeneity" having the highest centrality. Frontier themes included "Duchenne muscular dystrophy," "skeletal muscle," "in-vivo," "muscle regeneration," "mice," "muscle atrophy," "muscle fibers," "inflammation," " mesenchymal stem cells," and "satellite cell."ConclusionThis study presents the current status and trends in satellite cell research on muscle regeneration from 2010 to 2023 using bibliometric analyses, providing valuable insights into numerous future research directions.

Project description:The skin's integrity is vulnerable to external elements that can induce injuries, leading to wound formation. It's crucial to comprehend wound healing processes to protect the body when this protective barrier is compromised. Over the last 2 decades, there has been considerable progress in understanding delayed wound healing, with a focus on the mechanisms and microenvironmental factors involved. The connection between oxidative stress and wound healing has recently gained attention, emphasizing the need for in-depth analysis to propel further advancements and interventions in this area. Despite these advancements, there remains a noticeable void in the literature concerning the application of scientometric methods to systematically examine the progression of wound healing research. Additionally, a comprehensive assessment of the research output and effectiveness of various researchers and institutions in this field is lacking. To address these gaps, we analyzed data from the Web of Science Core Collection from January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2023, utilizing relevant keywords. Using CiteSpace, we created visual maps that depict the evolution and structure of keyword clusters, and both CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used to evaluate the performance of research networks across different countries, institutions, and authors. This data was methodically analyzed. The leading institution in this field is the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. The key researchers are Bekeschus, Sander; Li, Yang; Bi, Yang; Fan, Daidi; and Zhang, Yu. Our software analysis reviewed 3025 studies, revealing 19 co-citation clusters that highlight current trends in research on oxidative stress and wound healing. Prominent journals, leading institutions, and key researchers were identified. Key emerging research directions include studying the mechanisms linking oxidative stress to wound healing, exploring the use of antioxidant substances in wound dressings, and investigating how nanomaterials in dressings can influence oxidative stress. These focal points emphasize the significance of understanding oxidative stress's impact on wound healing and investigating new methods to enhance therapeutic efficacy. This comprehensive approach not only fills a gap in the current literature but also sets the stage for future research endeavors in this crucial area of health science.

Project description:BackgroundFerroptosis is a crucial pathogenic mechanism in Parkinson's disease, offering significant potential for pharmacological intervention. Despite its importance, the number of bibliometric analyses examining the relationship between ferroptosis and Parkinson's disease remains limited. This study aims to elucidate the knowledge structure and primary research focuses within this field using various bibliometric tools search.Materials and methodsWe conducted a comprehensive literature son ferroptosis in Parkinson's disease using the Web of Science Core Collection database. Bibliometric analyses and visualizations were performed with VOSviewer, examining the geographical and institutional distribution of publications, journal interconnections, and keyword prevalence. Furthermore, CiteSpace was used to visually explore and analyze journal interactions and citation dynamics. The bibliometrix R package facilitated the delineation of collaborative networks across different countries and the construction of visual network representations illustrating relationships among authors, keywords, and journals. Data visualization was further enhanced with Microsoft Office Excel 2021.ResultsRecently, there has been a significant increase in publications on ferroptosis, with China emerging as a leading contributor in this research area. Keyword analysis highlights the critical role of ferroptosis in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease, identifying GPX4 as a key enzyme mitigating lipid peroxidation. This study also elucidates the connections and distinctions between ferroptosis and other cell death processes such as apoptosis, autophagy, and pyroptosis. Current research primarily focuses on immunotherapy, prognosis, oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation, and the tumor microenvironment.ConclusionThis study provides a comprehensive initial analysis of the research landscape, identifying current focal points and potential future directions for ferroptosis research in Parkinson's disease. The findings leverage a variety of bibliometric methodologies to offer valuable insights into this emerging field.
