Project description:Background: Hypertension is one of the most common metabolic diseases in the elderly and its pathogenesis is associated with microbiota dysbiosis. Recent evidence suggests that oral microbiota dysbiosis is also an important factor in the development of hypertension. However, the relationship between hypertension and oral flora in the elderly has not been adequately investigated. Objective: The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the structure of the oral microbiota and its correlation with hypertension in elderly hypertensive patients. To provide new ideas for the prevention and treatment of hypertension. Methods: 206 subjects aged 60 ~ 89 years were selected and divided into normal (CON) and hypertensive (HTN) groups, according to the 2018 Chinese Guidelines for the Management of Hypertension. The oral microbiome composition of saliva samples was determined by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Results: Although there was no significant difference in α and β diversity between the two groups, systolic and diastolic blood pressure were the most important factors influencing the structure of the oral microbiota. At the phylum level, the relative abundance of the spirochete phylum and the mutualistic bacterial phylum was higher in the HT group than in the CON group (p < 0.05). Diastolic blood pressure was negatively correlated with Streptococcus. Furthermore, we analyzed HTN patients with 120 mmHg<systolic blood pressure<160 mmHg and systolic blood pressure>160 mmHg separately and found that the abundance of Saccharibacteria_(TM7) was significantly increased in the HTN_2 group. Conclusions: Our study identified specific oral microbiota in elderly hypertensive patients, confirming the relationship between oral microbiota and hypertension. This enhances our understanding of the important role of oral microbiota in the pathogenesis of hypertension and accumulates more evidence for microbial involvement in the development of hypertension.

Project description:ObjectiveThe objective of this research was to assess the level and determinants of medical personnel's knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding the management of sexual health in breast cancer survivors residing in western China.BackgroundSexual well-being is a crucial aspect of one's overall satisfaction with life. Once female sexual dysfunction (FSD) occurs, it will affect patients' satisfaction and life quality seriously. In all healthcare settings, the management of sexual health relies heavily on the vital contribution of medical personnel. Nevertheless, the sexual requirements of individuals with breast cancer are still partially unmet.DesignA web-based questionnaire was used to conduct a multi-centered, cross-sectional study involving medical staff from 26 hospitals in nine cities of Guizhou Province, China.MethodsData was gathered from healthcare professionals using a validated tool, the knowledge, attitudes, practices assessment scale for managing the sexual health of breast cancer patients in medical staff. This tool was used to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of medical staff regarding sexual health management.ResultsIn this study, a grand total of 3181 healthcare professionals took part. The overall KAP scores, including knowledge, attitudes, and practices, were 47.15 ± 11.91, 72.55 ± 12.56, and 58.61 ± 11.45, respectively. Three variables exhibited a strong and favorable correlation. The study identified significant concerns regarding the limited understanding of medical personnel regarding effective strategies for enhancing sexual health function in breast cancer patients, as well as their diminished confidence in addressing FSD. The scores of knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to sexual health management were significantly influenced by whether or not training was received.ConclusionsThe study results emphasize the importance of adopting a holistic approach to enhance the understanding, perspectives, and behaviors of healthcare professionals regarding the management of sexual health. In addition to enhancing the standard of care for individuals with breast cancer.

Project description:ObjectivesTo perform the cross-cultural adaption of the Breast Cancer Awareness Measurement (BCAM) and to test its psychometric properties among Chinese women.DesignThis is a cross-sectional study.SettingsThis study was conducted in communities, schools and institutions in Changchun, Jilin Province, China.ParticipantsA total of 328 women voluntarily participated in and completed the Chinese version of the BCAM (C-BCAM), resulting in an effective response rate of 91.1%.Primary and secondary outcome measuresPsychometric properties, including item analysis (the extreme group comparison and item-total correlations), content validity (item-level content validity index (I-CVI) and scale-level content validity index (S-CVI)), construct validity (exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA)) and internal consistency (Cronbach's α and test-retest reliability), were measured.ResultsThe C-BCAM has excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's α=0.90), with alpha coefficients of 0.88, 0.84 and 0.94 for its three domains. The test-retest reliability coefficient was 0.72. The I-CVI ranged from 0.86 to 1.00, and the S-CVI was 0.92. CFA showed that the three-factor model explained 51.56% of the total variance, with a good model fit (likelihood ratio χ2/df=1.86, incremental fit index=0.94, comparative fit index=0.94, goodness-of-fit index=0.84, adjusted goodness-of-fit index=0.80, standardised root mean square error of approximation=0.06 and root mean square residual=0.05).ConclusionsThe C-BCAM has satisfactory validity and reliability and is a culturally appropriate and reliable tool for evaluating breast cancer awareness among Chinese women. This reliable instrument can help researchers and health professionals evaluate women's knowledge about the symptoms and risk factors of breast cancer and identify their barriers to seeking medical help. It also helps healthcare providers identify women with poor breast cancer awareness and encourage them to perform screening practice.

Project description:ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to investigate death anxiety status among Chinese patients with cancer and identify factors that affect death anxiety.DesignCross-sectional study.SettingChangsha, Hunan Province, China.ParticipantsA total of 286 inpatients diagnosed with cancer were randomly recruited from a tertiary cancer centre and completed the questionnaires between January and June 2021.Primary and secondary outcome measuresThe primary outcome was the status of death anxiety. The secondary outcomes were the factors that affect death anxiety among Chinese patients with cancer.MethodsA total of 286 Chinese patients with cancer were recruited from a tertiary cancer hospital to complete the demographic and clinical characteristics questionnaire, Templer's Death Anxiety Scale, Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-second edition, and Meaning in Life Questionnaire from January to June 2021. Data were analysed using t-test, analysis of variance, Kruskal-Wallis H test, Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis.ResultsOn average, patients with cancer scored 7.72±4.17 for death anxiety, 25.71±9.69 for experiential avoidance and 45.19±8.22 for meaning in life. Ultimately, the statistically significant factors influencing death anxiety were education levels, insurance, pain scores, experiential avoidance and meaning in life. These factors explained 40.6% of the difference in death anxiety.ConclusionsPatients with cancer in China experienced a high level of death anxiety. This study showed that experiential avoidance and meaning in life were important factors that affected death anxiety in patients with cancer. Further studies should be conducted to explore effective interventions to prevent experiential avoidance and increase meaning in life for patients with cancer. Attention should be paid to patients without insurance but with lower education levels and higher pain scores to ultimately relieve death anxiety and improve their quality of life.

Project description:BackgroundThe COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for reliable information, especially around vaccines. Vaccine hesitancy is a growing concern and a great threat to broader public health. The prevalence of social media within our daily lives emphasizes the importance of accurately analyzing how health information is being disseminated to the public. TikTok is of particular interest, as it is an emerging social media platform that young adults may be increasingly using to access health information.ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to examine and describe the content within the top 100 TikToks trending with the hashtag #covidvaccine.MethodsThe top 250 most viewed TikToks with the hashtag #covidvaccine were batch downloaded on July 1, 2021, with their respective metadata. Each TikTok was subsequently viewed and encoded by 2 independent reviewers. Coding continued until 100 TikToks could be included based on language and content. Descriptive features were recorded including health care professional (HCP) status of creator, verification of HCP status, genre, and misinformation addressed. Primary inclusion criteria were any TikToks in English with discussion of a COVID-19 vaccine.ResultsOf 102 videos included, the median number of plays was 1,700,000, with median shares of 9224 and 62,200 followers. Upon analysis, 14.7% (15/102) of TikToks included HCPs, of which 80% (12/102) could be verified via social media or regulatory body search; 100% (15/15) of HCP-created TikToks supported vaccine use, and overall, 81.3% (83/102) of all TikToks (created by either a layperson or an HCP) supported vaccine use.ConclusionsAs the pandemic continues, vaccine hesitancy poses a threat to lifting restrictions, and discovering reasons for this hesitancy is important to public health measures. This study summarizes the discourse around vaccine use on TikTok. Importantly, it opens a frank discussion about the necessity to incorporate new social media platforms into medical education, so we might ensure our trainees are ready to engage with patients on novel platforms.

Project description:When individuals face life pressure or significant family changes, individuals with better family adaptation can better survive the crisis. Although the influencing factors of family adaptation have been investigated, the application of potential profile analysis has yet to be found. This analytical approach can reveal different potential categories of family adaptation, providing new perspectives for theoretical development and interventions. This study used latent profile analysis to explore family adaptation levels in breast cancer patients and identify different latent categories, examining their characteristic differences. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Jinzhou, China, from July 2023 to March 2024. The questionnaire included Sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, Benefit Finding Scale (BFS), Dyadic Coping Scale (DCI), Chinese Perceived Stress Scales (PSS), and Family adaptability and cohesion evaluation scales (FACES). Mplus8.3 and SPSS26.0 software were used for data analysis. The latent profile analysis (LPA) method was used to fit the family adaptations of breast cancer patients. Three latent categories of family adaptation were identified: low-level family adaptation (21.5%), medium level family adaptation (47.8%), and high-level family adaptation (30.6%). All 14 items with high levels of family adaptation scored higher than the other two groups. In particular, out of all the categories, item 9, "The idea of educating children is sound," scored highest. Compared with the low-level group, the influential factors of family adaptation in the high-level group were BFS, DCI, PSS, relapse and personal monthly income; The factors influencing family adaptation at the middle level are DCI, BFS, breast cancer type, family history of breast cancer, and personal monthly income. Compared with the medium level group, PSS and DCI were the influential factors of family adaptation in the high-level group. Family adaptation in breast cancer patients can be divided into three categories: low-level, medium-level, and high-level. There were significant differences among different categories of family adaptation levels in "personal monthly income", "family history of breast cancer", "type of breast cancer", "recurrence", "dyadic coping", "benefit finding", and "perception stress".

Project description:Globally, there is substantial concern regarding the challenges of treating complex drug resistance patterns in multidrug resistant tuberculosis cases. Utilising data from three different settings (Estonia, Latvia, Romania) we sought to contrast drug susceptibility profiles for multidrug resistant tuberculosis cases, highlight the difficulties in designing universal regimen, and inform future regimen selection. Demographic and microbiological surveillance data for multidrug resistant tuberculosis cases from 2004-13 were analysed. High levels of additional resistance to currently recommended second line drugs were seen in all settings, with extensive variability between countries. Accurate drug susceptibility testing and drug susceptibility testing data are vital to inform the development of comprehensive, flexible, multidrug resistant tuberculosis guidance.

Project description:ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to assess the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Family Resilience (FaRE) Questionnaire among patients with breast cancer in China.DesignIt was a cross-sectional study, which involved translation, back-translation, cultural adjustment and psychometric testing of a 24-item FaRE Questionnaire.SettingThree tertiary hospitals in Zhengzhou, China: respectively are the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Second Hospital Affiliated to Zhengzhou University and Henan Provincial People's hospital.ParticipantsA total of 559 patients with breast cancer volunteered to participate in the study PRIMARY OUTCOME MEASURES: Data analysis was performed using the IBM SPSS software V.21.0 and AMOS software V.21.0. Cronbach's α coefficient was used to examine the internal consistency. The test-retest reliability was calculated using the intraclass correlation coefficient on 30 participants. The content validity index was calculated based on the values obtained from six expert opinions. Construct validity test was performed using factor analysis including exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis.ResultsFor the Chinese version of FaRE Questionnaire, the Cronbach's α coefficient of the total questionnaire was 0.909, and Cronbach's α coefficients of four factors were 0.902, 0.932, 0.905 and 0.963, respectively. The test-retest reliability index of the total questionnaire was 0.905. The Scale-Content Validity Index was 0.97, and Item-Content Validity Index ranged from 0.83 to 1.00. The questionnaire included 24 items, exploratory factor analysis extracted four factors with loading >0.4, which could explain 72.146% of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis showed the Chinese version of FaRE Questionnaire had an excellent four-factor model consistent with the original questionnaire.ConclusionThe Chinese version of FaRE Questionnaire has acceptable reliability and validity among patients with breast cancer in China. It can effectively assess family resilience and provide basis for personalised family resilience interventions for patients with breast cancer.

Project description:ObjectivesThe Depression Stigma Scale (DSS) is commonly used to assess depression stigma in the general population and in people with depression. The DSS includes two 9-item subscales assumed to measure personal depression stigma (ie, personal perceptions of depression) and perceived depression stigma (ie, perceptions of how others perceive depression). The aim of the present study was to examine its psychometric properties in terms of validity and reliability in Chinese cancer patients.DesignA cross-sectional study design.Participants and settingsThis study focused on 301 Chinese cancer patients recruited from two hospitals in Xi'an, China.MethodsExploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used to assess the factor structure. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's alpha. To examine concurrent validity, symptoms of depression were used as the criterion.ResultsFor each subscale of the DSS (ie, personal and perceived depression stigma), the EFA and CFA confirmed a two-factor structure: weak-not-sick (ie, perceiving that depression is not a real illness, but rather a sign of weakness) and discrimination (ie, perceiving that depressed people are discriminated against). The Cronbach's alphas were adequate, ranging from 0.70 to 0.80. Symptoms of depression were positively but weakly correlated to personal and perceived depression stigma.ConclusionsThe DSS appeared to show satisfactory psychometric properties in our sample of cancer patients. Both personal depression stigma and perceived depression stigma subscales consisted of two underlying aspects.
